When Mufasa and Sarabi married, Sarabi had problems producing an heir. Scar saw his chance: if he could gain a son before his brother did, perhaps his father would choose him as king. Scar would have wanted Sarafina to be his mate, but because he couldn't have her, he chose her sister, Zingela. Zingela had had a little crush on Scar for some time already, and she happily agreed to bear cubs for him. At first, they kept Zingela's pregnancy a secret, because Scar didn't want to seem too eager to take his brother's place.
When it turned out that also Sarabi was pregnant, Scar decided to hedge his bets by seducing Naanda, Sarabi's sister. Soon, Naanda and Zingela realized that Scar had used them, and they were furious.
Zingela gave birth first. A daughter, whom she named Kula. She kept Kula away from Scar, and Scar didn't care. He didn't need a daughter. Later, Naanda gave birth to a son, Mtoto. He was weak and sickly, and Scar refused to recognize him as his son. It didn't matter anyway, because Sarabi had given birth to a healthy little prince, Simba.
Zingela and Naanda didn't tell their cubs who their father was, not until Scar became king. They wanted to know which cub Scar would choose as his heir - but Scar didn't want anything to do with Kula or Mtoto. He wanted new cubs... The lioness who would bear him a son, would become his queen. Sarabi offered herself but was turned down. She probably couldn't have cubs anymore. The next queen candidate was Sarafina, and Scar almost accepted... But then he remembered Sarafina's betrayal. She had born cubs to Scar's enemy, Jasiri. Then Scar came up with a perfect revenge plan. He would take Nala, Sarafina's daughter, as his queen. Nala was a strong, beautiful and healthy cub - she would give birth to great cubs as an adult.
The other lionesses were disgusted of Scar's decision. None of them wanted to have Scar's cubs, but they wanted to protect Nala, so many of them offered themselves to Scar. Perhaps, if one of them gave birth to a strong male cub, Scar would leave Nala alone. The lionesses were clever: they let rogue lions impregnate them, hoping that in that way they couldn't have Scar's cubs. However, their plan didn't work, and most of their cubs were Scar's. And what was worse, they all were girls.
One day, Scar's cubhood friend Zira, who had been exiled years earlier, came back to the Pride Lands and pleaded Scar to let her join the pride. Zira was very smart, and it didn't take long for her to realize that Scar had killed Mufasa and Simba. She used the knowledge to blackmail Scar. If he didn't give her what she wanted, she would tell everyone the truth. And she wanted to be queen. Scar accepted grudgingly, but remarked that Zira would have to give him a son. And she did.
At first, Nuka seemed to be a perfect choice for Scar's heir, but soon he realized that his son was nothing but perfect. Too joyful, too kind, too naive... Just like Mufasa.

Ok, who are the characters in the picture? You know Scar and you know Nuka (the little cub in his arms). The young lioness on the background is Kula, Scar's daughter with Zingela. The green-eyed cub is Chungwa, Scar's daughter with Miti. The sad cub next to Chungwa is Haya (Lazy-eye/Sly-eye), Scar's daughter with Mchanga. The brave cub biting Scar's tail is Impi. Next to her is Majira, and on Majira's other side is Ikhala. They are Scar's daughters with Naanda. The scruffy lioness behind Scar is Chakavu (Scruffy) and next to her is Mila. They are Scar's daughters with Dwala. But where's Mtoto? He died as a cub, and that's why he's not in the picture.
Kula is a character from a book called Nala's Dare. She's not portrayed as Scar's daughter in the book, it's just my theory.
The other girls are Outsiders from TLK2, except Chungwa. She will stay as a Pridelander.
"Scruffy" is a commonly used nickname for that lioness. Same with "Lazy-eye"/"Sly-eye".
Mtoto is a cousin of Simba, mentioned in a TLK puzzle.
