"Today is a lovely day." said Chumvi, looking at the sky.
"It certainly is." replied Kula, who then rubbed her head on Chumvi's.
"Wait for me!" called a young cub.
Chumvi breathed in deeply. "Why don't we rest here anyway."
Kula nodded and she lay down next to her mate.
"I made it!" said the cub as he lay down inbetween his parents.
"We knew you would, Kavu."
Chumvi smiled at his son, but he had an ache in his heart which showed there would be something going wrong anytime soon.
He just hoped his family wasn't going to be affected.

Right, here is my theory.
Chumvi and Kula and Kovu's parents. In their past generations there have been weak genes, which cause mutations such as Kovu's eye and nose colour.
The family get attacked by Zira who is desperately trying to impress Scar seeing as her current cubs aren't pleasing to him. She results in stealing other cubs.
She takes Kavu, as he was known then. She misheard Chumvi and Kula calling 'Kavu', thinking his name is 'Kovu'.
She presents Kovu to Scar, who is impressed because he sort of looks like him.
Zira then lies to Kovu throughout his life.

Chumvi and Kula never find Kavu/Kovu again. No-one ever finds out what actually happened.

In this picture, Kovu doesn't have his tuft as his tail colour because he is a young cub here.
