Short back-story:
Abandoned, forgotten about or orphaned (she can't remember) as a young cub, Kaluwa was adopted and raised by a rogue lioness. This lioness made her feel worthless by telling Kaluwa her birth parents did not want her, and she would be dead if it were not for the adoptive 'mother'. Kaluwa believed her mother, but she did not like her.
Even as a cub, Kaluwa knew what her mother was doing was wrong, but she was powerless to stand up to her. As she was growing up, Kaluwa realised she was a lesbian. Her mother was very displeased with this, and punished Kaluwa frequently. She wished she had the confidence to stand up to her mother, and find a sweet girlfriend.
When Kaluwa was old enough, she escaped her mother in search of a kind, understanding pride. She made a mental promise to never reveal her secrets to anybody, though. She just wants a fresh start and a patient lioness to love her.
