[mlkfaa] - Character -> Mbaya by Iri

Name meaning: "Ugly", "Bad"
Father: Unknown
Mother: Kaleema
Brothers: None
Sisters: None
Adoptive Daughter: Ua

Appearance:
With scars lacing her pelt, Mbaya looks somewhat fearsome. She has a massive build, and is very strong and muscular, but can't really jump or run that fast. But she's a rather talented fighter and huntress. She has dark brown fur, and her scars are very dark crimson as if stained with blood. Her right eye is a medium-toned teal and her left eye is blind and unseeing, a cloudy-grey iris with a darker stormy-grey pupil. She has four nicks in her ears, two in each ear, and a "snaggled" tooth, though she prefers to call it an "abnormal fang", due to her defensiveness of her appearance. She has a pinkish nose and the same coloured inner-ear. Her salmon-pink nose has a "groove" running down the middle of it. Her underbelly is cream-coloured and her paws are the same colour. She has rather flat, short thin fur.

Personality:
Timorous and introverted, Mbaya is easily put down. She has little to no morale and rather prefers to be alone. Being around large groups of lions puts an enormous amount of anxiety and stress on her. Loud noises scare her out of her wits and she is easily frightened by quick, sudden movements.
Despite her slightly menacing appearance, Mbaya is amiable and benevolent. She utterly despises violence and does her best to keep away from it at all times. She has no social skills and favours being solitary rather than chatting.

Perceptive and wise, Mbaya is very intelligent. She was taught how to hunt at a young age, and was never a lion to slack off or not listen to instructions.

Mbaya is also one to be extremely defensive. She doesn't like her scars being stared at. She's very sensitive too, but rarely ever cries in front of anyone.

History:
Her mother was formerly a neutral lioness, but after an incident including Mbaya's long lost father, enormous amounts of fighting and physical violence, and yelling, Mbaya's world was shattered. She had no father figure, a harsh, overly-strict and stern mother, and no siblings, no friends. She felt alone, but also felt as if it was right- like she was just destined to be lonesome her whole life.

Mbaya came to accept her future, which she knew would consist of her cruel mother and no father. She had no siblings, no friends, no one to stick up for her.

Later she came to terms with her life. Her mother was harsh, yes, but Mbaya refused to ill-speak about her. She just loved her mother, despite the cruel treatment she got in return. She knew that deep down, her mother did care.

Years passed, and Mbaya had grown to be a serious lioness, but also had odd fears and a strange, awkward way of jumping at sudden movement or noises. She was skittish and afraid. She woke up one morning to find her mother dead- the older lioness had passed in her sleep.

Mourning and grieving, Mbaya could not help but feel miserable. In spite of the way her mother had treated her, she was the only family Mbaya had and she was gone now.

Finally starting to get over her loss, Mbaya found a tiny, abandoned, wounded cub beside a riverbank. She named the cub "Ua" and adopted her, acting as if she was the minuscule cub's mother. She felt terribly heartbroken when Ua's biological family came to take Ua away, but she also was delighted when Ua returned.

She willingly allowed Shujaa and Kapuki, Ua's sisters, to stay in her small, secluded home so long as they weren't attempting to deceive her. Kapuki had a difficulty trusting Mbaya, though Mbaya knew that she should be patient. Over time, Kapuki grew to trust Mbaya, and the younger lioness' wariness faded. Kapuki proved her worth when she drove off two of her allies to protect Mbaya and Ua.

"Titus, cherish this time. One day you'll wake up and you'll say, 'Who's that old woman in the mirror?' And then she'll punch you, and you'll say, 'That's not a mirror, that's an open window'."
