Pounce and Plot


It was a time of peace in the Pridelands. Simba was now a magnificent young adult with shining golden fur and a flowing, luxurious red mane. At the moment, he was taking a break from his princely duties and playing a game of chase with his good friend and Nala’s baby brother, Mheetu. The cub looked up to Simba, and Simba appreciated having him as a companion.

“I’m going to get you, Simba!” Mheetu shouted.

Simba laughed.

“Only if you can catch me!” Simba replied as he ran.

Mheetu continued the chase. Suddenly, Simba stopped and fell to his side. Mheetu seized Simba’s ear in his mouth and began to tug. It reminded Simba of what he would do with his father Mufasa and caused him to laugh as he gently roughhoused with Mheetu. Just then, a familiar voice was heard. It was the voice of Vitani.

“Poor Simba. Still no good at pouncing,” she said.

Simba and Mheetu turned to see his sister standing with Nala. He smiled at his beloved.

“So, how is my blue-eyed dream today?” he asked with a flirtatious gleam in his handsome brown eyes.

Nala smiled sweetly.

“I’m fine,” she said.

She then went to her little brother.

“Hello, furball,” she said in a playful tone.

Mheetu frowned.

“One day, I’ll be a mighty lion and you won’t be calling me that anymore!” he said, trying to look tough.

This only caused Nala to laugh as she held her brother close. Mheetu enjoyed the feeling of being surrounded by her warm pale tan fur. Meanwhile, Simba and Vitani continued to banter playfully.

“I bet I could beat you right here and now!” Vitani said.

Simba smiled cockily.

“Do it then!” the strong young male said.

Without further word, Vitani leapt forward and knocked Simba over.

“Got ya,” she said proudly.

Simba pushed her back.

“A lucky shot,” he said.

The prince and princess went on. However, not all was right. In the Elephant Graveyard, Scar and Zira had sent three young male hyenas to spy on the Pridelands. They had been watching the group the whole time. Now, they returned to their home, where Zira met them.

“Do you have any information?” she asked.

“Only a small amount, your highness,” one of them said.

Zira’s red eyes narrowed.

“A small amount is better than none at all. Come and tell Scar,” she said.

She then began to walk into the cave. The hyenas followed. Upon arrival, they told Scar everything. Scar laughed wickedly.

“A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer,” he said.

“The royal family’s dying gasps, that’s my lullaby!” Zira added.

And so, Scar and Zira plotted to attack Pride Rock the next day.
