As this is my first fan-fiction that I hope will be a surprising and interesting one.
Please read the whole thing and comment below with ideas/judgement/mistakes/etc. As always, constructive criticism is welcome and enjoy your reading! ^_^

Plot -

Spoiler: show
Vitani has been treated poorly, unfairly, and unjust since the battle at the river. Although most of the Outlanders had sided with the Pride Landers and lived in peace, the Pride Landers still couldn't get past the fact that they are Outlanders, not one of them. All the Outlanders are treated horribly; with taken food, low quarters for sleep, and most of all - no respect. With hatred burning inside herself, Vitani gathers the Outlanders to strike at Pride Rock with a force they have never known.

Meanwhile, mischievous Kira and polite Kuvu are both heirs to the throne although the real heir is Kuvu. When both the cubs get into serious trouble, they are frightened into running away and befriending a rogue cub named Mwendo who gets an 'becomes' part of the Outlanders to spy for fun. Little did he know he's getting important information until he slips out that Pride Rock is being destroyed and Kuvu and Kira must decide to go back and face their stern parents, or let their people die.

Prologue

Spoiler: show
Pride Rock stood in ultimate splendor, towering above all who stand before it. The morning sun slowly creeped up from behind the grassy plains of Serengeti Africa, a dark red with orange glow flowing from it's base. All animals from Africa, from the tiny meerkat, to the gigantic elephant, they slowly journyed to Pride Rock. Why was this event so amazing, and important among the animals? New cubs who would heir to the throne had been born, by Kovu and Kiara.
Kiara, who was Simba's only child, proudly licked both cubs she held in her open paws. Fondly, she caressed their baby faces and stroked their soft, newborn fur, whilst Kovu marveled at the number and timing.

"Two cubs, Kiara? Is this very normal for a lioness your age?" He questioned worridly.

Kiara giggled and licked her upset mate's face. "My father says it's unusual, but Sarabi gave birth to him when she was but a year old."

Kovu shrugged his shoulders and a smile came from his face. "The male looks a lot like me, don't you think?"

Looking at the faces of their heritage, Kiara noticed the male looked similar to Kovu and the female to herself. "Yes," she pondered. "He does, doesn't he? And the female looks like me."

Kovu gazed at Kiara's worn-out face and smiled. "Perhaps we should give them a name that sounds similar to ours?"

The cub's gurgled and giggled as Kovu's sharp claws tickled their warm, plump bellies.

"I think we should, too," Kiara smiled.

For a while, none of them spoke, until the silence was broken by the babes giggling.

"How about we name them Kuvu and Kira?" Kovu suggested.

"Kuvu and Kira? Isn't that much too close to our own names?" Kiara asked, slightly upset.

Rafiki slowly strod in, a big smile upon his odd face. "Are our prince and princess ready for the ceremony?"

Kiara hesitated to answer, but when she did, she smiled and looked fondly and the gurgling babies. "You mean Kuvu and Kira...our heritage."

Chapter 1 - Left Out

Spoiler: show
The sun rose high above the African plains, and showered over Pride Rock, leaving strands of red glow shining on the cold rock. At this time most of the lions and other animals were sound asleep in their dens, except for Kuvu. Kuvu had been a rather odd child compared to his likeliness of his father Kovu. Instead of being quick natured and temper-mental, he was easy-going and kind. Smiling as he watched the sun rise slowly at the tip of the colossal rock, his sister unsuspectingly pounced on him from behind. Giggling, Kuvu playfully pushed Kira away from him.

"Kira, I was having a nice morning," He complained. "Until you came along," he added. Of course he was playing, and his sister had no doubt about it as she nagged him laughingly.

"You promised to take a walk through the Pride Lands." Her face turned into an unhappy frown as she continued, "And father told me at the crack of dawn you would immediately comply to my every wish and-"

"Woah, that vocab has really come off!" Kuvu laughed, cutting Kira off before she could finish. "I made a promise, and I intend to keep it, but you'll just have to be patient. This is the only time in the day I get a moments rest."

Kira reluctantly lay down beside her pondering brother, her face creased into a frown, and her usual pretty face was pert and angry. She gazed into the distance and after around two minutes, the energetic cub could take it no longer.

"Dah, this is boring, Kuvu! Let's go for that walk!" She bursted.

Kuvu chuckled at Kira and finally gave in. "Okay, okay, the time really flew by, didn't it? What, it was about..two minutes?" He added sarcastically.

His younger sibling nudged him playfully as the jumped off little crevices in the rock down towards the grassy ground. "It's been long enough for me," She stated proudly, huffing and extracting her small chest.

-----------------

Kovu's mind had forced his weary body to wake up from his refreshing slumber. Stretching out his legs and extending his claws, he yawned tiredly. Gazing over at his still sleeping mate, he smiled fondly. Her limp form was beautiful in the morning rays, and the morning mist withered around her soft pelt. After licking Kiara lovingly, he strod outside the den just in time to see his two cubs wander off. Kovu giggled and whispered to himself quietly.

"Ah, those two. Well, cubs will be cubs," he said as he retreated down the slope to go by the pool and have a refreshing drink of water.

Most people may think that African water is dull, grainy, and dirty, but in this little pool, the cool freshness of it was refreshing. Kovu could feel his spine shiver as the freezing cold water touched his parched lips and went running down his throat. Finished with the liquid, he went back up to the den and nudged his mate gently.

"Come on, Kiara, it's time for you to wake up." He gently whispered.

Still sleepy and eyes drooping, Kuvu raised her head and weakly smiled at Kovu. "You still wake up early like you used to when you were a cub." Slowly raising up, she yawned and completed the sentance. "But we're not cubs anymore, and that means we're more bone-tired than usual."

Kovu laughed and licked her playfully. "No, we're not, but we can still play."

Kiara mockingly begged him to stop. "Oh please, I beg of you, kind sir to not ache my pore old body." She giggled as Kovu rolled her over and became playfully nipping on her soft skin. After they had their fun, she sat up again and shaked herself off. Looking around, her happy face turned worried as she asked, "Where have Kuvu and Kira gone to?"

Her mate reassured her hastily, "Oh, they're fine, just going outside for a little walk."

-------------

Since the Outlanders had become one with the Pridelanders, Vitani had been treated with no respect. As many may think from her immediate change of sides she would be treated well, but she was really not. Vitani had grown in hate and evil, but had redirected to the good side, but even then she still have thoughts of revenge. Remembering how she was spared from death by Kiara and Kovu though, she always put those thoughts out of her head. Now she couldn't hold them back. Someone had to pay...and soon.

Chapter 2 - Troublesome Orgins

Spoiler: show
Kuvu and Kira had traveled around three miles when Kira dropped to the ground panting heavily.

"Perhaps we should stop to rest here for a while," Kira gasped as a drop of sweat trickled down her brow. With a worried look, Kuvu slowly sunk his body beside hers and mopped her head with his face. He shuddered as he felt the hot sweat cover his own cub face; it was not the best of feelings. Once Kira had recovered, they set off for a few yards until the vegetation thinned and all was left was a few whispy blades of grass. Further down, they saw more coverage around the desert and found a cave to rest in. Surprisingly enough, the cave was pleasantly cool, and with a sigh both the cubs rested their heads against each other and fell asleep.

When Kira awoke, the sky was a light purple, threatining to show the orange sun soon. She stretched her legs and looked at her brother's sleeping face. It was rather odd that Kuvu would be sleeping even this late...her eyes suddenly wandered towards a small crack in the cave that looked menacing, though adventurous to a curious cub. And a curious cub Kira was.

--------------

Kovu was pacing the ground inside his and Kiara's den at Pride Rock. His brain was weary from stress and worry though he couldn't get it off his mind. Where had Kuvu and Kira gone? Never had the cubs strayed very far from Pride Rock, let alone overnight. Kiara watched him silently and spoke in a soft whisper,

"Kovu, I'm sure they just got tired somewhere and stayed the night -"

"Tired? How stupid those cubs should be, to run off like a pair of ruffians with no experiance with the outside world whatsoever!" Kovu interrupted with anger burning in his eyes.

But at the same time Kiara was agitated at her mate who was being really annoyed since the morning. "Well, if they are lost, we can't very well go looking for them now, can we?"

Kovu's eyes lowered into a hateful glare as he spat, "When I find that Kuvu, I'll make him scream so hard he wished he were never born!"

--------------

Kuvu awoke slowly to the sound of a muffled whimpering that came from further inside the cave. Cautiously, he ventured into the cave until the sound became quite distinct. The sound of his sister crying. Running now, he padded along the cave when he found a sorry sight before him. Kira was inside a hole in the wall that was covered with rocks and sharp stones; and she couldn't find any way out.
"Kira? Is that you?" Kuvu asked. And almost ten seconds after he inquired, she replied in a hoarse whisper 'yes'. Now he was really concerned; if it was that much of a struggle to say one word it could mean only that she was running out of air..fast. Trying to keep as calm as possible Kuvu yelled to Kira, "Okay, Kira. You stay here, I'm going to get help." With that, he ran off into the hot desert, not exactly knowing where he was going or thinking anything, just one motive in his mind : find a living soul.

[End of Chapter 2]

Chapter 3 - Death So Close

Spoiler: show
Kira was trapped inside the confining space of the small hole she was inside. Looking back at her misadventure, Kira realized how stupid she was.

Hearing a soft whisper lure her inside a small hole, Kira had trotted inside the darkness. Sniffing the air keenly, she began inspecting the tiny space. Finally she came to her senses and rushed to the entrance right before there was a large crumble where dirt and rocks were piled. The strange creature had lured her inside the hole and closed the entrance; but why?

The miserable cub whimpered and buried her baby face inside her paws, remembering those awful moments; finally she began falling into fitfull dreams. Carrying her away.

--------------

Kira awoke, still inside the hole; the air supply was running low and she began to feel queasy. Her body felt heavy and her head was throbbing with a terrible headache. She wanted to lie down on the floor and sleep; that beautiful remedy for pain. Her eyes drooped, but she pinched her paw with her teeth to stay awake. For she knew that if she fell asleep, she would never return.

--------------

Kuvu has run a mile when he collapsed in the heat. His body breathing heavily, he struggled to his feet and carried on, slower in pace. When morning had come, he finally saw the great Pride Rock. Withing sight of this, he gained more strength and quickly ran to the large mass of rock.

Kovu and Kiara were still inside the den pondering where the two cubs had gone to, when Kuvu inched inside, obviously fatigued. Kiara rushed to his side and licked his face.

"Whatever happened, Kuvu?" she asked nervously.

Kuvu was about to tell her Kira's story, when his weary head drooped, falling unconcious.

--------------

The cub awoke with a pain seering through his head. Kovu and Kiara were standing above him inside the den, worried faces creased. Kiara sighed with relief and licked his cheek fondly. Kuvu gulped saliva down his dry throat and gasped,

"Kira - crack..trapped." Although being barely able to speak, Kiara had understood one thing that Kuvu needed : water.

Running down towards the Water Hole, cub in jaws, Kiara stooped down to let the cub drink. Needing no further heeding, Kuvu gulped away at the precious, life-giving liquid that watered his parched throat. Finally being able to speak, he related his story to Kiara and how Kira was in danger. Kovu listened intently in the conversation and finally spoke up,

"How did this happen?"

"I don't know, but we need to help her as soon as possible!" Kuvu replied, already starting down the path. "Follow me!"

--------------

Light shed inside the darkened hole where Kira lay, unconcious, but alive. Kovu dug fiercely at the soil and rock with his paws; finally getting to his precious daughter, he grabbed ahold of her scruff with his teeth and struggled to pull her out. Kira's limp form was a sorry sight; torn and cut with dirt over her soft pelt. Kiara wept silently until Kovu snapped at her,

"Quiet, will ya? She's not dead," he spat scornfully.

Although Kovu had not seen it, Kuvu flashed him a hating look before glancing back at his sister. A soft trickle ran down his own cheek while they slowly walked home; there would be severe consequences.

--------------

Kira's eyes fluttered, beckoning soft light that showered down on them. Her nostrils had been filled with dirt before, but now they were clear and brought in the cool, fresh scent of grass. Her face lit up into a smile when she saw her brother walk inside, somber.

"Kuvu," she whispered, hardly being able to speak from her turn of events.

Kuvu's once somber appearance was brightened and he smiled with pure joy and his living sister; standing there as good as ever. Kovu called them both and Kuvu cowered again.

"Father wants to speak with us," Kuvu whispered frightened.

[End of Chapter 3]

Chapter 4 - Punishment

Spoiler: show
When the lionesses had gathered the food to eat at supper, Kuvu and Kira cautiously wandered towards the food. A tender zebra lay on the ground, trickles of blood streaming down the tore parts of the red flesh. Kuvu and Kira ate little bits and chewed very slowly, aware all eyes were on them. The moment every lion had finished feeding, they hurridly retreated down the rocks when they heard their father roar,

"Kuvu! Kira! Speak with me, please"

Kuvu gulped and shrugged at his sister and began to walk towards his stern father. Kira, however, had other plans. Staring at Kovu with defiant eyes, she angrily bore at him.

"Come, Kira." Kovu beckoned again, this time more severe.

But still Kira would not budge; her body was sitting pertly on the rock, her face scrunched into a scowl.

"If you don't come here right now, Kira, I swear I'll..." He stopped in the middle of his sentance as Kira appeared beside him. Kovu's face was obviously astonished at her agility, but he shook it off and put his stern glare back on. "Why did you go so far?" He questioned.

The young cubs stared at the ground but said nothing.

Kovu realized their shame and added in a much softer tone, "You musn't go so far away. You were almost killed today, Kira." He glanced over at Kira, her face still strung in the unhappy frown. Kira couldn't stand it any longer.

"Why do you always have to ask the questions?" She muttered under her breath. Kovu's eyes became severe once again as he asked,

"What did you say?"

The female cub lowered her eyes at him and stuck her face into his; her voice in the full. "I said, 'Why do you always have to ask the questions?'"

"Because I'm the father, that's why!"

"Some father; you can't even take care of your kids!" Kira screamed back, not to be outdone.

Kovu's teeth gritted together as he clenched his teeth, attempting not to lose his mind by this defiant cub. "You will not speak to anyone, eat anything from our food, or be part of our activities. You shall be treated as an Outlander until you apologize!"

"You can't say that!" The cub screamed.

The great king slashed at Kira's undefended face, but before he could, Kuvu was between them. "There's no need to fight, Kira. Dad's right; we should have been listening to him." He nudged Kira's side. "We're sorry, Dad. Say you're sorry, Kira," he added in a whisper.

Kira's eyes lowered once again and she spat at Kovu, "No, I won't!"

The look in her father's face at that moment was so terrifying, she could have swore she heard hell screaming. His eyes burned with anger and his mouth was open, showing his razor teeth. Kovu's claws extended and he lunged at the cubs, but the cubs were prepared. Running down Pride Rock, not daring to look back, they raced off towards the desert. They were outlaws.

[End of Chapter 4]

Chapter 5 - Banishment and Heartbreak
Spoiler: show
Vitani paced around her cave domain at Pride Rock. Ever since they had been accepted into the Pride Lands by Simba, they've been treated poorly by the others. They couldn't get past the fact that it was in the past and the Outlanders were in peace with the Pride Landers. That meant the Outlanders were thrown out like rubbish and scornfully had names taunted at them. The Pride Landers wouldn't let them have the first meat of the kill, even if they were the ones that caught it. Vitani didn't like that. Her paws pattered, unstoppable, for the thoughts running through her head were evil, cruel thoughts. She had no other intention but to kill. One of her faithful allies, Shakira, cautiously strode into her mistress's presence; Vitani could be unpredictable.

"Mistress, is the plan going accordingly?" She ventured.

Vitani glanced back at her, unsurprised of her presence; she had heard her. "Yes," she began, "the plan is finally taking its toll. Soon the Pride Lands will be rid of that brother of mine...Kovu." She spat the last words scornfully. Gazing back at her companion, she spoke, "Now, then, did the hyenas do their job?"

Shakira looked at her mistress nervously, but she tried not to show it. "Yes, ma'am."

The skillful lioness peered at her eyes and the evil words spilled from her mouth all buttery and sweetly. "Good; we wouldn't want them not to do their job, now would we?"

Shakira caught the dangerous look in Vitani's eyes and gulped, "No, ma'am, we wouldn't. But how will we convince Kovu to kill the Pride Landers?"

The mistress whirled back, "You will see, my friend. You will see..."

-----------

Kivu and Kira ran until their paws hurt. They gasped desperately for air and slumped to the ground panting.

When she had caught enough air, Kira asked, "Do you think we lost them?"

Kivu nodded, still unable to speak. The two frightened cubs stayed in their spot until night came; a bad time for cubs to be out. Whenever a sound came, whether it be the crackling of a leaf, or the pattering of paws upon sand, they turned their heads quickly in alarm. Kira nudged up to Kivu and whimpered pitifully.

"Kivu," she muttered, her voice choked with emotion, "I wish we were home." She dug her face into her brother's warm stomach and rested her head there. The warmth of his fur comforted her as he also reassured her gently while singing a soft lullaby well known by lions.

* "Mpenzi, songbird mdogo wangu,
Msiogope, kwa maana usiku unakuja snabbt,
Wakati wamelala, hakuna kitu wanaweza kuwadhuru ninyi
Mpenzi wangu, upendo wangu, msiwe na hofu."

They fell asleep together under the soft moonlit sky. The calm serenity was broken by a lone figure gazing at them curiously.

----------------------

* (Translation of the song Kivu sings to Kira)
Darling, my little songbird,
Be not afraid, for the night comes swiftly,
When you are asleep, nothing can harm you,
My darling, my love, be not afraid.

You're certainly off to a wonderful start, my friend. I was thinking about critiquing tonight, but if its all right I'll wait until you put Chapter III up so I have more substance and more to go off of. (I know usually prologues don't really count when compared to general statistics in writing, XD.) I am enjoying it thus far, though. ^_^
