Well, this story was all about creating a situation in which Nala could possibly cheat on him. In the TLK universe, Nala would have no reason to, I agree. I created a universe in which she has both a lion with whom to do so and a reason to be extremely angry at Simba. It's very difficult to make an action very out of character for someone to feel natural and that's what I tried my best to do here. It's up to you if it worked or not. ^^
