Nala found herself nestled at the very top of pride rock staring out at the horizon. Torrid drafts of air ruffled her fur and made her shiver to herself. Simba, her mate and now retired king, lay beside her. She intriguingly watched as his flank rose and fell along with his rhythmic breaths. Her eyes followed the first ray of sunshine as it traced his frame, showing off his full form and toned muscles. Sometimes Nala sat there and wondered how she ever came to have such a handsome husband, or how she ever managed to become queen and raise such a wonderful daughter or even survive the trials life had thrown at her. Scar's reign, her near betrothal to him, the escape and fight for survival at the cost of her own life for the greater good and well being of her pride sisters, the fight and the final unity of the on going war between the outlanders and the pridelanders that had gone on for generations.
All the while Nala sat there with a placid look in her gaze, Simba stirred from his slumber and blinked his sun kissed eyes. They met with Nala's beautiful teal and they smiled gently at each other. Never had two lions known true love like what Nala and Simba shared with each other. They'd beaten the odds and come together in the end to bring life back to a dead land, had a cub and started a new generation and had nearly completed their part in the great circle of life. For the rest of their days they would be simple advisors to the king and queen to be. Because today was their official day as the new king and queen. They would each head to the tip of pride rock, Nala and Simba roaring one final time to wave of their reign as Kiara and Kovu would step up and take their turn. Introducing a new reign of unity and harmony upon the pridelands.
