Enter story here:

Early morning in the Pride Lands. The sun barely creeping over the horizon as the last shadows of night vanish into light. The cool grassy ground quickly becomes permeated by the heat of the sun as the creatures begin to stir. The crawling ants forage for food and march in incredible sync. While the leaping antelope start waking to the bright sunlight and graze upon the grass. The trees blow in a mild breeze while the clouds drift lazily across the saphire sky. Several light splashes are heard throughout the bountiful land as creatures of all shapes and sizes lap up the precious water. But as life begins to pick up pace all around the Pride Lands, one place remains as quiet as a mouse: Pride Rock

Mufasa, being the older of his siblings and friends, awakes earlier from the rest of the pride. He walks out to the tip of Pride Rock and smells the fresh morning air. Accompanying him is his younger brother, Taka. Slightly less impressed with the morning, Taka had always taken a little longer to wake up than his brother. Meanwhile, their sister Kati slept in next to her mother Uru. Inside the den slept a few other cubs; Sarabi, Sarafina, and Aiko, as well as the rest of the pride. The king takes his precious time sleeping in this morning, the previous day telling his children that he had something to show them in the morning. But now, he was testing the two brother's patiences, as the morning stretched on and Ahadi still slept in. Finally growing impatient, Taka approaches his brother and says:

That's it, I'm tired of waiting! I'm gonna go wake dad up! He was intent on his mission to go to his father and bash his head into his father's as hard as he could so their morning could finally get started. He simply couldn't take the anticipation any more. He started off slowly towards the den.

Little did the two cubs know, their mother was awake, though she hadn't moved from her comfortable spot by her mate yet. Ahadi's warm, golden body was a strong and comforting pillow, Uru's dark-furred body pressed up against her mate's belly. Her head was tucked up underneath his chin in a happy snuggle, having fallen asleep that way last night.

Right now, she listened to Taka and Mufasa, her wine-red eyes closed. She smiled inwardly at the thought of her two energetic and eager sons, ready to learn from their father... they were really sons to be proud of. Happy to simply be a mother, Uru let out a soft, nearly inaudible purr as she listened.

"No, Taka, let's let him sleep. I think he's tired from chasing those hyenas away again yesterday," Mufasa piped up, trying to be quiet so as not to wake their parents. He put a huge, golden paw gently upon his brother's black-tufted tail, reminding him to be patient. "After all, it wouldn't be very nice to wake him up when he's doing something nice for us," he explained further, flattening his ears humbly.

Taka stopped abruptly as Mufasa hindered his movement. Listening to his brother's words, Taka felt like Mufasa was trying to tell him what to do again. Even though he was the oldest cub in the pride, Taka had little patience for listening to his 'all-knowing' brother. A slight glance of impatience radiated on his muzzle before slowly moving Mufasa's paw off of his tail. Swishing it freely back and forth, Taka looked again at his brother. "But he promised us first thing in the morning." Taka, still keeping eye contact with Mufasa, slowly moved toward the den again. Once he was far enough away from his brother, he'd bolt to their father and wake him up. "And if we let him sleep in any longer, he'll just make us wait til tomorrow. I could barely sleep last night!" His words started off quiet, but then escalated to a hushed yell.
----------------------------
Meanwhile, inside the den, Kati slept near her mother. Her dark-golden fur didn't stick out while inside the shadowed cave, but her light blue eyes radiated like diamonds. It was no secret either; Kati's eyes were beautiful and she knew it. Everyone in the pride knew it. But she wasn't usually one to brag.

Suddenly, she was woken from her delightful slumber, when Taka began to argue back to Mufasa. Brothers... she thought in the back of her mind. She let out a yawn and then leaped to her feet. Prancing out of the den with a wide, welcoming smile as she trotted over to greet her two siblings. She normally greeted Mufasa first, as he was older than Taka. In Kati's mind, age had privileges and perks. And this morning... or early noon, was no different. Slightly startling Taka as she padded past him, Kati said "Good morning Mufasa."

Taka shot a glance of irritation to Kati behind her back. But then he thought of an idea. If Kati distracted Mufasa, then he could sneak into the den and wake up their father. Taka maintained his ground and waited for the opportunity to sneak away from his siblings.

Mufasa frowned at his brother's impatient words, not knowing how to respond to them. Ahadi had promised them an early morning of activities for them, yes, but the young golden cub knew that patience was a virtue, as their mother Uru had taught them so often before.

"Taka..." Mufasa started, a note of disapproval in his young voice. But before he could admonish his brother any further, their sister padded out, obviously still shaking off the sleep from her late morning.

"Oh, hey, Kati," he said, smiling. Kati was always very nice to him, and as an older brother, he got along with her particularly well. "Didja sleep all right, lazy bones?" He smirked, ruffling her head with an oversized paw. His interactions with his sister distracted him from the plans Taka was currently making in his mind, and he missed the fact that his younger, darker-furred sibling was edging away from the pair.

Uru, now fully awake but still too comfortable to move, waited next to Ahadi, her wine-red eyes open and watching her youngest offspring tiptoe his way towards his slumbering father. She smiled slightly to herself and quietly rolled to lay on her feet and belly, awaiting his arrival into the den.

---

Meanwhile, another cub was off by himself, picking his way between the den lionesses to look for one particular female cub. His bright eyes swept back and forth over the warm, furry bodies lying on the stone ground until he finally found who he was looking for.

"Hey, Saffy! Wake up, lazy head!" He whispered, poking his best friend's backside. Sarafina was usually found snuggled tightly against her mother, and this late morning was no exception. "Hey, I'm bored... come and play with me," Aiko whined, his fringe of white fur flopping into his face. His equally white tail twitched in annoyance, waiting impatiently for his friend to get up.

Sarafina smiled in her sleep, dreaming of something pleasant. She was normally awake at this time, but this dream had her enticed. She had no intention of waking up at any time soon. Until her best friend Aiko lightly poked her back and whined for her to play with him. She turned her head to face her white-furred friend.

"Oh, Aiko... It's only you." Sarafina slowly lifted her body up and walked to the entrance of the cave with her friend. When suddenly, she realized that Sarabi was still asleep. She was also one of her best friends. And if Aiko could wake up her, then she could wake up Sarabi. Her eyes started scanning over the sleeping bodies in the den, looking for the Sarabi. She would probably be sleeping near her mother, but even that wasn't guaranteed. She saw some movement near the entrance of the den. Is that Sarabi? Sarafina thought. But as the figure tiptoed further through the sleeping cave, the figure was revealed to be Taka.

Taka sneaked over his fellow lions and lionesses, trying to get to his father in the back. Of course he was in the very back of the den. It would be too easy if he wasn't. His flowing black mane remained motionless as the huge lion slept. Most would let this sleeping giant lie... but not Taka. As soon as he cleared all of his fellow pride members, Taka made a break for Ahadi.

"Dad, wake up. You promised, you promised." Taka said with an impatient voice. Putting his front paws on Ahadi's head and bouncing up and down, repeatedly saying the word "dad".

-----------------------------

Kati moved Mufasa's huge paw off her head and giggled. "Muffy, how many times do I have to tell you? Don't do that." She said in a playful tone as she pushed Mufasa lightly. She and her brother had a very strong relationship. Stronger than her and Taka had at least. Speaking of which, where was Taka. He was out here right?

Kati looked around but didn't see him anywhere. She then turned to Mufasa and said "Hey... where did Taka go?" She was hoping for an answer, even though Mufasa probably didn't see where he went either. She still had to say good morning to her other brother.

Uru smiled wryly as she watched her youngest son come forward to irritate his father and her mate, fully expecting him to have done so. She came to a standing position, flexing her light-colored toes against her partially-extended claws, and smirked as she watched Taka bother Ahadi.

"Taka." Uru knew that the one word would get the cub's attention and admonish him all at once, and she waited for her son to turn around and face his mother.

---

Aiko's pouted at Sarafina's comment, pushing out his bottom lip.

"Whaddaya mean, only me? I'm the best cub around here!" He stated pompously, puffing out his fluffy white chest. He strutted as he walked, nose in the air, and didn't pay attention to where he was going, until he ran straight into Taka. "Oof! Hey, watch where you're goin'!" Aiko shouted noisily, frowning.

Uru looked from Taka to Aiko, an unhappy wrinkle adorning her forehead.

"Aiko, that's not very nice. You ran into Taka, and now you should apologize," she said in a firm but gentle voice.

Aiko flattened his ears in the presence of an adult, but his gaze still looked irritated. He sat on his haunches and hunched, sulking.

"Sorry, Taka," he said in a dull, sing-song tone, before prancing away and rolling his bright blue eyes. "Well, c'mon, Saffy, let's go," he grumbled, trying to get away from Uru quickly.

The young mother's eyes crinkled in a sparkling smile. Boys will be boys...

---

"Oh, Taka!" Mufasa said in an irritated voice, realizing that his brother went missing. It didn't take much to figure out where he'd gone. "He's gone to wake Dad up," he said, rolling his eyes and exchanging an irritated glance with his little sister. "Let's go get him..."

Mufasa began to trudge to the den again, looking at his sister to follow.

"Dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, DAD!" Taka continued bouncing on his father, harder and harder. A look of sheer determination on his muzzle. Finally, Ahadi's eye lazily creaked open to glance a peak at the disruption. It was none other than Taka. Instead of cooperation with his son, Ahadi turned over on the other side, now facing away from Taka.

"DAD! Taka yelled irritated and impatient. He felt ignored. His father was purposefully ignoring him simply for some more sleep. Taka jumped up on his father and bit his ear. Then proceeded in tugging on it until he woke up. One could say that the only ones who could lay a paw on Ahadi, were his cubs.

Taka suddenly stopped when Uru said his name. He froze in his place. Taka slowly let go of his father's ear and walked over to his mother. Shaking slightly, Taka looked down at his mother's paws, afraid to look her in the eyes. Ears flattened and tail drooping, he didn't even notice that Aiko was heading this way.

Taka let out an "oof" as Aiko ran into him. He and Aiko had a rocky relationship at best. And when the white cub yelled at him, it made Taka feel even worse. He was already in trouble for bothering his father as he tried to sleep. And now, another cub was yelling at him. Even after his mother forced him to apologize, Taka knew he was still in trouble.

-------------

Sarafina looked from side to side still trying to find Sarabi. She didn't even notice Aiko and Taka's dispute until he said he was sorry in a very unbelievable tone. "Wait Aiko, I wanna find Sarabi first." Suddenly, Sarafina finally spotted Sarabi. A look of happiness spread across Sarafina's muzzle as she headed over to her friend.

-------------------

"OK Muffy. I'm right behind you." Kati set off close behind Mufasa to get to their younger brother inside the den.

Uru's eyes followed Aiko as he scampered off, with little Sarafina hurrying to catch up. She turned her head to look down at her youngest son, who now looked politely ashamed of himself.

"Now, Taka, what did I tell you about thinking before you act?" The queen admonished gently. Over Taka's head, she saw Mufasa and Kati begin to enter the den, but she shook her head almost imperceptably, telling them to leave while she disciplined their brother.

"Oh..." Mufasa whispered to Kati. "We better go... we'll wait for him out here to cheer him up later." With that, the golden cub began to quietly exit.

"Taka, I know you're excited, and that you want to hear what your father has to say to you, but you must think of others before you think of yourself. You are a prince, and you will one day help your brother rule the Pridelands as kings with joint power together." Here, she bent low to tilt Taka's chin up with a paw to look into his brilliant green eyes. "You are so intelligent, Taka. I know you'll be a great lion when you grow up. But for now, you must learn to be unselfish. Okay?" She licked the black tuft upon his head before patting his rump. "Now, go play with your brother and sister. I'm sure they're waiting for you outside."

----

Aiko stopped short when they saw Sarabi sleeping just outside the den, the sun's warm rays lighting her belly. She was sleeping on her back, her head flipped upside down with a dreamy expression on her face. Her paws were tucked against her stomach and chest--altogether, Sarabi looked absolutely adorable.

"Hey guys," Mufasa said loudly, and Sarabi startled awake. She flipped onto her feet with a surprised expression that quickly turned into an irked glare.

"Oh! Sorry, Sarabi..." Mufasa said sheepishly, scuffing a paw. He'd always been... awkward around Sarabi, for some reason. While with everyone else, he always said the diplomatic and correct thing, and avoided being a pest, with Sarabi, it was harder and he often slipped up.

"Muffy, you scared me," she said, her brows furrowing. She flicked a black-rimmed ear before standing and stretching, causing Aiko to mess with her. The albino cub grinned before pushing her off-balance with a foot. "Oof!" Sarabi felt the air rush out of her lungs as she landed on her side, paws flailing. She got up and growled playfully, chasing the male cub in irritation.

"Can't catch me! Can't catch me!" Aiko shouted, trotting tantalizingly ahead of Sarabi. Mufasa laughed as he watched them, a solid, clear peal that rang through the rocks around them. The two ran around in circle until Aiko finally tripped, allowing Sarabi to pounce on his head and bite him multiple times. Mufasa sat on his haunches and sighed, wishing he was at ease with her as Aiko was....

Mufasa turned to Sarafina and Kati. "So, do you guys wanna play tag or something when Taka gets out?"

Taka stared at the ground listening to his mother read him the selflessness speech. Circling his paw on the cold, hard ground, Taka tried not to look Uru in the eyes. She had a certain look that she gave Taka all the time. It was almost like she was staring into his soul. He looked all around him. Left, right, anywhere except Uru's eyes. He even watched as Ahadi shifted in his sleep. Had he really fallen asleep again already?

Suddenly, Taka felt a paw underneath his chin lifting his head up. Before he knew it, he was face to face with his mother. Staring right into each others eyes. She saw more in Taka than anyone else in the pride. And as much as Taka didn't like being lectured by his mother, he even more appreciated that she saw a great lion in him. A single tear fell from Taka's right eye as his mother leaned down and licked his black tuft. Before he left Uru's side though, Taka ushered, as quiet as a mouse, "I'm sorry mother" He slowly turned toward the exit, tail in-between his legs and ears still flattened, trudged to the outside where his siblings wait.

------------------

"Yeah! That sounds like fun Muffy." Kati started, prancing up to her older brother gleefully. "I think Taka will be needing something to get his mind off of the-" Kati stopped and looked at Sarafina, who was listening intently to the conversation. She didn't have to know that Taka was in trouble. Kati lifted her paw up to Mufasa's ear to block the sound from traveling, and whispered in a low voice, "the you know what."

Sarafina approached the two cubs and ask, "Get his mind off what? What is it Kati?" Kati lowered her paw and looked at Sarafina. Her eyes darted all around searching for a distraction. Suddenly, she ran up to Sarafina and lightly touched her shoulder. "Tag! You're it!" Kati ran off toward the tip of Pride Rock. Sarafina watched her stop at the top, giggle, and playfully shout, "Nyeh nyeh!"

Sarafina then ran at her. "What is it Kati! I wanna know too!" The two cubs started chasing after each other, laughing so hard, it's a wonder neither of them fell on the ground laughing.

Just then, head hung low, Taka walked out of the den and into the light. But Kati and Sarafina didn't notice his entrance and continued to play.

Uru looked on with a slightly saddened gaze as she watched Taka leave, his tail tucked between his legs and his once abundantly rambunctious nature subdued to a quiet apology. She sighed, her chest heaving with the breath of air. She looked over to her mate.

"Ahadi, I know you were listening. You really shouldn't torture them so," she chastised, leaning over to lick her mate's ear. "Time to get up, darling."

---

Mufasa's gaze followed the two girls as they played, happy to be here with the rest of his friends and family. But he couldn't truly have fun until... ah, there he was. He saw Taka exit the den, looking low and defeated. Mufasa trotted over to him.

"Hey, how'd it go?" He asked his brother, genuinely concerned. "Sorry you got in trouble..."

"Taka got in trouble?" Sarabi had followed Mufasa out of curiosity, leaving Aiko and the two girls to play together.

"Uhh..." As much as he didn't want to tell Sarabi what had happened and make Taka even more embarassed than he was, he didn't want to make Sarabi mad, either. So he just stood there, staring at Sarabi, not knowing what to say. He looked at his brother, lost for words.

Back with Kati and Sarafina, Aiko was losely sorely to the two girls. He just couldn't seem to catch them...

"Aw, c'mon, females are lighter and quicker, it's not fair!" He shouted. His haughtiness and pride were easily injured, and now was no exception. He looked at Sarafina pleadingly. "Pleeeeeease can I not be 'it' now?" He whined.
