Growing Up [Private: TheLastLion & Stormy]

[Stormy]

Jay doesn’t say anything as he himself was trying to process it.

“Hello?!” Kaylee says again beginning to walk in a random direction. "We're right here, Kaylee." Jay says grabbing Kaylee before she could walk off. “..Let’s take her to the doc.”

They take her over to the doctor. The doc puts Kaylee to sleep so he could get a closer look at her eyes without her flinching or closing them. A few minutes pass before he looks back up to Jay and Kayla with some uncertainty on his face.

"Is it serious, doc?" Kayla asked. "That look on your face says it's serious."

[Stormy]

“You’ve got two options. It’s common for prides to let their disabled cubs go. As a lot of the time it will bring them down trying to care for it. You can let her go peaceful-“

“We are NOT letting her DIE.” Jay growled angrily at the doc. “I don’t even know why you’d bring it up! What is wrong with you?!” Jay says with a slightly raised voice, his emotion taking the best of him.

The doctor sighs. “Well, your other option is to let her live through it. I can’t do anything for you. She’s 100% blind with nothing to treat it. You'll have to teach her how to live her life with it. Her ears and senses will be the most important thing to her. She will need to learn to guide herself with hearing and scent. She is 100% prey now, too. She will have to be able to sense danger when it is around, and know how to either defend herself or where to run."

Kayla began to raise a point. "Doc, I have a question
: Isn't it true that when one sense is taken away, the others are enhanced?"

[Stormy]

"In most cases, yes. So likely it will be natural for her to be using them a lot more. And also since she's younger, she can likely learn to live this way a lot quicker. Or adapt to it faster, if you will."

"Thanks for clarifying, doc. But I have another question as to why her blindness developed at around age 5?" Kayla was still a bit foggy on the details.

[Stormy]

The doctor sighs. "To be honest with you, I can't really say. This is a very odd case. Though I'm not surprised coming from this one, as in the past she did have problems. When she first came here, you guys took her to me because of her lack of energy or will to do anything else. So she clearly has... something. I just don't know what. It's not something I've really seen before. Especially from a cub."

"So, what should be our next move for now?" Kayla sighed, realizing the limited options presented to them.

[Stormy]

"Just have patience with her as she adjusts to not having her sight to guide her. It'll take a while, but she'll get it. It's the only thing you can do if you want her to live through it." The doctor replies.

There is a silence before a quiet cry could be heard coming from Jay as he placed his paws over his face. "I'll give you a moment." The doctor says before walking out. A few moments pass before Jay slightly removes his paws from his face and looks at Kaylee, who was still asleep on the ground due to the anesthesia that was given to her. "It's not fair." Jay says wiping his face with his paw. "She shouldn't have to live this way. Not this young."

"It's not your fault, Jay." Kayla said softly, "No one could have foreseen this."
