Jela shrugged,"I was oldest. I cared. When they were still there." Her voice didn't falter and no emotion crept into her voice, for she felt none. She shrugged,"Things happen, they make us who we are. And that is why I'm cruel, heartless, and uncaring." She waited for a reply.

"You didnt care?" he was confused. Why? he didnt wait for a reply. "Well I did. And thats my choice, but i understand why you may not feel that way." he smiled slyly. "And i wouldnt go so far as to say you are heartless. You let me come along, right?"

Jela gave him a look,"That was for my own good-I knew I wasn't in good enough condition to support myself alone." She paused and gave him a look,"And I DID care, a long time ago." She sighed,"So long ago."

Sevvy saw her pain. without warning, he touched her shoulder with his paw. Surprisingly, she didn't shrug away. "Why did you stop caring?" he whispered.

Jela shrugged carelessly, intentionally pushing him away,"I had nothing left to care about." She gave a deep, intimidating stare, then looked around, trying to hide the fact that her past was starting to bother her, for once. Why did she stop caring? Her excuse was invalid and inadequate.

"Hmm" he said, smiling to himself. "Not the greatest reason, but, whatever." he glanced around. "We should get going. I want to find somewhere to sleep before sunset" and with that he set off, leaving Jela behind momentarily.

Jela caught up easily, her long legs churning beneath her long, slender body. "There." She indicated a small cave in the distance, surrounded by some type of vegatation."It'll be easy to hide our tracks and scent." Jela trotted down towards their new destination.

Sevvy sighed and smiled. Even though he was nearly killed, he felt closer to his companion. He followed her to the cave, and took one whiff and retched. 'What is in there?' He said incredulously. He didn't need to look far- at the mouth there was a huge pile of rotting hyenas. 'Nice' he said

Jela shrugged and wrinkled her nose,"Lets try somewhere else." She backed out if the cave and scanned the area. "Over there, I think there's an oasis or something-anyhow, it'll be good cover." She trotted off again. She laughed as Sevvy joined her,"The hyena carcasses would've definitely covered our scent..." She realized it was the first she had laughed in ages, the first time she'd found ANYTHING remotely amusing.

Sevvy smiled. He wanted to laugh at Jela's confused expression, but suppressed it. He didn't think it the best idea- he didn't want to ruin her good mood. "I wonder how they got there? They looked pretty mauled to me". He didn't really want to know, but was curious as to what Jela thought.
