After Ibadah and Akila had been gone for awhile, Marini started worrying. She decided to go out and look for them. Ibadah had led Akila deep into one of the dark areas. There were a lot of trees around, but they were all dark, and it seemed scary to be in. Ibadah wasn't scared, but Akila was, and jumped at every rustling of the leaves above them.
"Will you calm down?" Ibadah asked. "Nothing's going to hurt us."
Akila began to relax. They soon came to a small log. Ibadah jumped up onto it. Akila heard a crack and became scared.
"Don't worry! This log will support our weight. Now come on!"
Akila followed, but as soon as she jumped up onto the log, it broke underneath her, and she began falling. She grabbed inside of the log and held on with her claws. "Ibadah, help me!" she called.
Ibadah turned around and saw a hole in the log. He ran over to the hole and saw Akila slipping. He looked down and saw that this area was dry - there was no river or stream underneath. Instead, it was just dry, hard land. "Hang on, Akila!" he called, and tried grabbing onto her and picking her up. Unfortunately, she was a little heavier than him, so he began slipping. He continued to pull and tug. Akila screamed, which alerted Marini, who was far away. She quickly ran in the direction of the cry. She realized the two cubs had gone into the forbidden areas. She quickly ran through the dark forest and reached the log just as Akila and Ibadah were going to fall. Akila lost her grip, which made Ibadah flip over the edge of the log, and the two of them fell.
"No!" Marini cried. She could hear the hard thud at the bottom, and began to panic. She ran down to the bottom of the gorge.
"Akila! Ibadah!" she called. She couldn't even think about what the king would say if Ibadah was dead. She continued to look around for them, and soon found them lying motionless on the ground. She ran over to Akila and began to lick her fiercely. The little lioness groaned, and Marini let out a sigh of relief. She walked over to Ibadah and nudged him. He also groaned, which made Marini feel a little better. She picked up the two by the scruff and ran back to her home.
After travelling for a little while, she soon reached the dens. "Help me! Akila and Ibadah are hurt badly!" she called, and lightly set the two cubs on the ground.
