Tiaret was surprised at her own strength; she had always thought carrying people and things would be. She followed Shahallie silently, mentally noting all the times she had a chance to drop Vida and make it look like an accident. As she realized she was very seriously considering murdering a fellow living being, she wondered why she'd become that way with Vida. Then she remembered the way Vida had killed countless deer or passing birds, not for food or practice, or tortured dying animals for fun. Tiaret restrained herself from throwing Vida from her shoulders and killing her then and there by reminding herself that by law, Vida owed her a life-a debt that would be much needed, she was sure of it. She marveled slightly at Shahallie's strength-he was the only one who had ever rivaled Sakas. She realized he may have been weakened, but he was still strong. When she'd first seen him, she had thought him an adolescent lion, weakened and alone-like she'd thought of herself. But, now, she had grown to see him as strong and adult, like she had grown in only a few hours, many losses, and much physical pain.

Saka frowned as his eyelids fluttered. He was being carried. He rolled onto the ground, wincing as his bruised ribs made a cracking sound. He leapt to his feet, barely keeping his balance, and looked surprised as he found that it was Shahallie who had been carrying him. As he started to fall, Shahallie darted to catch him. As he leaned against Shahallie's surprisingly broad shoulder, Saka growled,"What are you doing? Where's Vida?"
Shahallie let him ease himself onto his burnt feet then gave him a blank look,"Repaying a debt, and Tiaret is carrying Vida."
Saka snarled as he looked at Tiaret who was easily supporting Vidas weight,"You're debt is to Tiaret-not me."
And with that he trotted gingerly towards his sister, who refused to let him burden himself with Vida's weight.
