Chaltuu nodded slightly, appreciating Angus' words. "Well," she said, "my father says red fur is 'the symbol of bloodshed and war'. In short, due to my very existence I'll throw my pride into turmoil." She paused for a moment before she continued.
She had never liked her father anyways, for when she was a cub he only could spare time to hurl a harsh insult at her. Basically meaning. She had to get used to it quickly, and while her mother, Uangaze, wasn't a bully, she completely ignored Chaltuu and did occasionally call the russet lioness a mean name. Her pride judged her and called her a freak, which led Chaltuu to become very sheltered, very distant, insecure, and she had an enormous lack of self-esteem. She was forced to cover up all of her ridiculous vulnerabilities with a harsh, brusque, sometimes even cruel facade, and she almost never exposed her weaknesses.
Chaltuu had been travelling alone ever since she was two years old, considering how she and Kivuli behaved- they fought almost every minute of every hour of every day. Their heated arguments often led to a scuffle of dominance, and despite Chaltuu's size and strength, she was never able to actually overpower her father. It would always be Kivuli chasing her off to her den or sending her to the savanna so he could be rid of her. However, sometimes Uangaze stopped Chaltuu from seriously hurting Kivuli- but not trying to prevent Chaltuu from being injured by Kivuli. That was the only real time Uangaze noticed Chaltuu at all.
[Does Angus have a sad past?]
