No. No no no, the sun was still visible in the sky! Rangi leaped out of the bush in a panic, showing herself to Kuruka for the first time. She ran up to her friend and then they both trotted a safe distance away, letting Witiva and her group do the job.

Kuruka swung around, a hiss escaping her jaws. She spotted the other cub and narrowed her gaze. There were no other cubs in the pride at the moment--who was this? The youngster pinned her ears and glanced back in the direction of her pride, where the sound of more cries rose up. She heard roars and thumps. What was going on? She stumbled forwards, running towards the conflict. Lion fought against lion. She let out a squeak as she watched a lioness fall. One of the pridemembers she had grown up knowing. There wasn't any grief, for they had not cared for her, but it was still a sudden shock to see the familiar face lifeless. Kuruka gurgled and backed up, her tongue hanging out of her jaws and her violet eyes wide, swimming with confusion and a bitter sense of satisfaction.

She watched as the ground turned red, and more and more of her pride fell to the strangers. It was so sudden. She saw a flash of dark russet--her mother! Faraja collapsed beneath a massive grey brute, who leaned and tore out her throat. Kuruka stared. She didn't like her mother. But that was just...that was...the cub's vision blurred. She shook her head rapidly to clear it, and stared coldly. The rogues seemed not to notice her at first. But as the last of her pride crumpled to the ground, some of them approached her. She gazed at them, expressionless, and waited for them to kill her.

They didn't. She felt teeth in her scruff. Kuruka was lifted up and away, taken to wherever these strangers originated.

Rangi stared at her father's dead body. She favored more in her father and even though she knew, it was such a surprise to see him gone. But now she had to go. Turning to Faragha, she sighed and followed the rogues, the lighter cub at her tail.

"So, uh," She said when they got back to the rogue territory. "Kuruka. Don't ask me why I know your name, it's a long story and I-"

"Let me explain," Said a broad gray-brown lioness. "Kuruka, meet your sister, Rangi. Rangi, let me introduce you to Kuruka. Your mother told Rangi to stay away because of her eyes, but that's just her eye color. She thought it was a curse. Faragha brought her to us and explained it all, my good little spy. We got you because your pride was another chance for us to kill and we wanted you two to train together. Prepare, Kuruka. Your mentor will be named tomorrow. Rangi, thank you for staying back and watching instead of joining in so we didn't mistake you for one of their cubs, you recognized the fact that not all of us recognize you yet."

"T-thanks Witiva." Rangi said, nodding respectfully to her mentor then looked back at her sister. "Well that's one less of a job for me. Hey, you wanna meet Faragha? She's really nice and she's Witiva's daughter."

She too saw Maono, and let out an involuntary whimper. He'd been less harsh than Faraja of course. Though not kind, his stoic demeanor had been at least more welcoming than the rest of the pride's scowls. She'd heard rumors that he still liked his daughter, but she'd never seen any affection displayed towards herself, so she couldn't know.

The cub was dropped roughly down onto the soil. Kuruka jerked her head around to face the other cub. The one she'd seen earlier, right as the fight began. And there was another cub with her. As the larger cub spoke, her ears flattened back and her tail stiffened. Who the hell was this cub? She was obviously the presence that Kuruka had been aware of for some time, and perhaps that was how she learned the name. But, suddenly a lioness came up and interrupted. She spilled out a strange story, and Kuruka sat through it all, upright and scowling. Much of her anger was directed towards this 'Rangi' who seemed to know everything. Sister? No.

Kuruka's tail gave a quiver in her fury. "No! Get away from me!" she snarled, backing up. She'd just seen her whole pride murdered, and this cub wanted to go and chat? The violet-eyed cub turned and padded away, forcing herself not to run. She was seething with anger. She'd been left in the dark. Her mother hadn't told her--of course she hadn't. Faraja had never liked the skinny brown cub, never bothered with her at all. Kuruka was irritated that this rogue group seemed so casual about the information. And Rangi? Little arrogant hyena. She continued to trek away--not leaving, for she knew they probably would come and get her--but just walking, trying to cool off.

[sorry she's so mean. -hugs Rangi- she's having serious mental issues. which probably isn't surprising with what she's endured. xD]

Rangi pinned her ears to her skull and looked at Witiva, and the older lioness shrugged. "She just lost her- well, yours too- parents, and she may not want to talk right now. Let it sink in for her."
"Yes, Witiva." She said, shrinking down into a ball.

(Actually I'm not surprised XD)

[kay good xD]

Kuruka padded silently across the dusty stretch of land, lost in her thoughts. She'd begun to cool down, and was feeling better, though her insides were still twisted with frustration. And she was in a sort of shock as well. All that death, so fast. The cub shook her head. She paused and lifted a paw, staring at it as she flexed her claws. Someday, she'd be powerful. Hadn't they mentioned a training? How..convenient. A mad light stole into her violet gaze as she stood alone. Then the cub shook her head, the feeling gone instantly. She turned and began to trudge slowly back in the direction of her now home. She guessed she'd be staying for awhile.

Rangi was at the stream taking a drink of water, looking up as she saw her sister return. She raised her eyebrows, licking her lips.
"So, uh, do you want me to give you a tour or something? Because we're gonna be here for a long time." She muttered, sitting up and turning her head back to scratch off a mosquito.

The darker cub's gaze fixed on the other cub before her. She paused as Rangi lifted her head and faced her. "No." Kuruka answered, leaving it at that. She padded forwards, past Rangi, holding herself stiff and cold. She didn't want this. Yes, perhaps she was being selfish. But she was a cub who'd endured traumatic events. She didn't really care about how she acted to be honest. Kuruka stalked onwards, her tail tip flicking every so often. She was going to observe this rogue group for a little while. So she wasn't the stupid cub who didn't know anything.

(What if some of their scars were from eachother?)

Rangi growled, getting up and trotting in front of her sister and turned to block her path. "Actually, I shouldn't ask, I should say." The light-ish cub spat, narrowing her sky blue eyes. "We're going on a tour. Yeah, that's better, because then you don't have a choice."

[Mhm, sure. Makes sense.]

Kuruka paused and stared at the other cub, stiff and hard-eyed. She merely let out a soft hiss, not fazed in the least. It wasn't as if she hadn't endured similar encounters before. "Oh? Are you going to drag me around, then?" she sneered, her voice light and chilly. The violet-sighted cub flicked back her ears. Oh yes, this was some good sisterly bonding. Sarcasm.
