Umeme looked at the Zebra again. "So should we hunt it then?" she asked, "put it out of it's misery? If it will only be left alone again..." A shadow swept over them and she looked up to see some vultures circling the area. Clearly, they were expecting a meal soon, and it was easy to see what that meal would be. Without really wanting to admit it, Umeme knew that the zebra would not be leaving this place alive.

Muroki also looked up, letting out a sigh of annoyance. "I've seem those birds go for a kill before. They do not quickly bite into the throat, they can't... They just peck at the flesh with their beaks, regardless of the pain they are causing." Lions and other big cats would end the suffering of the prey quickly by a bite to the throat, unlike vultures because vultures had no teeth. "Sounds painful if you ask me..." as much as he felt sorry for the zebra, he didn't feel like they had much of a choice unless they wanted to let it suffer a painful death. "At least we won't cause it that much pain."

Umeme nodded. "Alright. Let's go get it. Try to sneak up on it. No need to scare it even more than it is already." Unlike her previous hunts, she didn't really want to catch this specific animal, she knew that they didn't really have a choice. They needed the meat, and this was the easiest catch that they will be able to get. Besides, Muroki was right when he said that the vultures won't make death easy. Better them than the birds.

With a sigh, Umeme sank into the grass and began to creep up on the zebra. "Come on, lets get it over with," she said.

Muroki also lowered himself so that the grass was hiding him from view. "I'm coming." he said quietly, slowly followed her. Technically they didn't even have to hide considering that the zebra was barely walking, but Umeme was right and they should not make make it worse for the zebra by scaring it to death so early before actually killing it. The less time the zebra would spend trying to run away in fear the better.

Umeme crept up on the zebra. Despite the animal's fearful scans if its environment, Umeme and Muroki were able to almost touch it before Umeme stopped, Muroki next to her. They were to close for her to talk to him, so she simply looked at him and nodded at him. As soon as he is ready and will nod back, she will break into a run at the zebra.

By now, Umeme had mostly forgot about her earlier doubts. They needed the meat, and the zebra is the perfect opportunity for them to get it.

Muroki kept his gaze fixed on the zebra. He so badly wished they could have helped it that he didn't pay any attention to where he was placing his feet, but luckily there wasn't anything in the way that might have alerted their helpless target. After coming to a stop next to Umeme he looked at her for a few moments before nodding his head. He waited for her to charge and as soon as she did he followed her.

Seeing that Muroki was ready, Umeme nodded again and charged. The zebra barely saw them coming before she jumped on it and clamped down hard on its throat. Muroki jumped on the zebra's back, helping her. Almost before it even started, the zebra went down and lay still.

Cautiously, Umeme let go of its neck and stared down at its kill. She grinned slightly at Muroki. "We got it," she said softly, and then her grin slowly faded. "We didn't have any other choice, right?" she asked, "we had to hunt, and this... we did do the right thing?"

After making sure that the zebra really was dead Muroki slowly got off its back. He stared at it for a moment before looking at Umeme with a nod. "Yeah... We did the right thing, it was either us taking it down or those vultures." if they could have done anything to help that zebra he would have gladly done so, but he doubted there was anything they could do. Either way, it didn't matter anymore.

Umeme nodded. "Alright. Well, let's get this back to the den. It won't do us any good to leave it here." She picked up the zebra again, motioning for Muroki to help her out as well. She was certain that Delano was really hungry, and would appreciate the fresh meat the most.

Muroki nodded at Umeme with agreement before placing one side of the zebra on his back and waiting for Umeme to place the other side on her back. Together they began carrying the dead zebra to where they saw Lina and Delano lost, because they were probably still exactly where Muroki and Umeme left them. Having never spent perhaps more than a day without food, Muroki could only try to imagine just how hungry his brother probably was.
