Kiara ran up to Kovu in a panic, "Whats going on?". She looked down. "S-S-Shia?" she whispered. Kiara just stared, frozen in shock, "My baby, my baby" she whispered. Silent tears fell down her eyes, she turned white as snow as she looked down again at her beloved daughters body. Shia's eyes were wide open, Kiara used her paws to shut them, she couldn't bear to look into her child's lifeless eyes. "Who....." she looked around, distraught and still crying. "WHO!!" she screamed. All of a sudden Durba appeared from where he was hiding after his family arrived. His eyes widened at what he had done, he backed away as Kiara saw him. "You! You killed her!" she screamed. Durba decided he was against his family, he didn't give a care in the world now. Durba grinned evilly "She deserved it" the murderer turned around and ran off. Kiara stood, silently.

"Kiara, shall I go and chase him down? When I catch him, I will then send him into exile," Kovu said. Deep inside, he was furious. He wanted nothing more than to be rid of the lion he had once called his son.

Kiara still just stood, silently. She looked over at Nguvu and Uzuri who were also as shocked as she was. Kiara shook her head, "If he has any sense, he won't come back" she whispered. "For now, what we need is a proper ceremony, to remember Shia's life" she added. "Please carry my baby home" Kiara said, looking over at Kovu.

Meanwhile, Durba had ran off far away, he was even on the outskirts of the Outlands at this time. He looked back at Pride Rock, "Goodbye for now, but when I come back I will be King" he shouted. Durba ran off into the darkness, hoping he would find lions like himself, lions to help him murder and claim his family's land, "The Pridelands will be mine, all mine".

"Yes, Kiara, you're right," Kovu replied. He then looked at Nguvu and Uzuri. "Come. We have to prepare for this ceremony," he told them. Inside, he was full of grief, grief such as he had never felt before. Grief then gave way to fury. "If you ever dare to show your face around here again, Durba, I will deal with you myself," he vowed.

Shia looked down at her fanily and her lifeless body. "Darn Durba! I could have told them! I could have helped Nguvu! I wanted to have a pride of my own. Yet he killed me and ruined it all! Shia cried in Mufasas arms. "Ooohh there, there Shia. Everything happens for a reason!" Mufasa tried to calm her down. Yet it seemed not to be working. She still was there balling her eyes out.

Kiara arrived at Pride Rock, she started to cry again. "I can't believe she's gone!" she cried. She looked over at Uzuri, she was also crying. Shia had been a best friend to her. "Kovu? Can you tell the pride" Kiara sniffled.

Durba had ran a fair distance, no longer was Pride Rock visible, not even the Outlands were visible from where he was. It was a dry fairly open place, with a few tree's here and there. Durba soon found a small cave with a rock pool of water nearby. He padded in and lay down, not knowing this cave was already taken.

It was with immense sadness that Kovu announced Shia's death to the rest of the pride. Not since the death of Mufasa had Pride Rock seen such an outbreak of mourning. Kovu turned to Kiara. "She's at peace now," he told her as he nuzzled her to comfort her.

Uzuri closed her eyes as the tears ran down her cheeks. Shia was gone. Dead. If only they'd found her a few minutes earlier...perhaps she'd still be alive right now..

Kiara decided that in one hours time the ceremony would take place. The elephants helped build a huge log fire, in a pyramid shape. Shia was placed inside and it began to thunder. Kiara looked up at the sky, it was night time and the only star to be seen was a new one, Shia's star. One by one, each lionesses bowed to the young lionesses body. Kiara said a few words to the pride, feeling it was her responsibility, "My family, my dear friends. Shia was a wonderful daughter, no one could replace her" she began. "She will be deeply missed among us all". "Goodbye Shia!" as soon as she had finished a bolt of lightning hit the great pile of logs and it was set alight. Her daughter burnt away, lionesses cried, Kiara remained still, knowing her daughter had gone to a better place. It began to rain and the fire died down, Shia's body no longer there. The rain stopped and carried the ashes, way up into the sky. "Goodbye".

Kovu was equally sorrowful in that moment. "Goodbye, Shia. I will love you and remember you forever. If I could have prevented this, I would have. Until we meet again, goodbye," the king stated.
