"You could leave it behind." Jela joked, feeling strangely elated and playful. She pranced a little, searching for another, less eerie song to sing. She sighed, thinking.

Sevvy laughed at her playful mood. He wished he could join in. He lifted his head, suddenly aware of a fresh smell, like... Outside! And he heard the wind. 'Can you hear that? We're nearly there!'

"Oh, yay!" she laughed at her own use of the silly word and trotted forward-attempting to scout out any dangers lurking nearby. "Um, Sevvy, I think the coast is kind of clear."

He laughed. 'Really? i never would have guessed!' he laughed again. It felt nice to have something really happy to think about. He bounded forward like a cub (with the small exception of his leg lagging behind). 'Come on!' He followed his nose eagerly to outside.

Jela's merriness disappeared as she poked her head cautiously into the sunlight. She crept out silently and smothered a laugh at Sevvy. She trotted down a hill to the side of the caverns they just exited. "Sevvy-come one." Her voice was tight and demanding.

Sevvy cocked his head. What put in such a foul mood suddenly. He tried to lighten the mood anyway, by carrying on his cheery pretence. His blu eyes scanned her tense body, trying to judge what on earth it was that was going on.

Jela slinked down the hill. Something didn't feel right. She couldn't smell anything-but they could be standing upwind. She quailed at the thought of having to go back. She stood rigid as she herd voices. She turned towards Sevvy and gave hi a wide-eyed warning glance, before creeping silently towards the voices.
"No sign of her-do you think she went through the caverns?" A deep voice was saying. Another voice sounded, one that was deceptively smooth, one that sent shivers down her back. "She's not that foolish. I think she has someone with her. The moment you find I want to know so I can-" Jela backed away quickly, not wanting to hear the rest.

'Jela? What is going on?' Sevvy whispered urgently. He had heard everything, and wa getting increasingly worried. When no reply came, he got irritated. 'Jela, tell me what is going on!'

Jela stood rooted to the ground, her muscles trembling. "We need to go." She started to run full speed away from Sevvy, and her past, which was closing in on her.

Sevvy let out a growl of frustration. He couldn't run, so he crawled. In a very undignified fashion, too. Then he smelt them. Two lions, by the guess of things. And it clicked.
