"Soon," he purred. "Soon, we will have two troubemakers to look after." With one last nuzzle, he ventured off into the lands he had inherited from his elder brother and former king, Mufasa, when he had died saving Simba from a stampede the cub had caused trying to roar in a gorge. Taka remembered hearing the boy's cries for help, and quickly sprinted off to find the current king, and together they raced down towards the gorge. Without any fear for his own life, Mufasa had leaped down into the herd and rescued Simba, but he had slipped back down. When he jumped back up, Taka had tried to climb to his position to help him, but just as he got there, Mufasa began slipping. Taka reached a paw out in a last attempt to save his brother's life, and Mufasa reached out to grab it, but alas, fate did not spare him as he fell to his death just centimeters from his younger brother.
Taka shook his head, trying to rid himself of that painful memory. Dwelling in the past will make the present any more bearable,he thought as he made his way through his morning patrol. The same patrol Mufasa was on when Simba started it.. He growled softly to himself, it angered him to even think of the ungrateful little cub. Simba had run away once he had discovered his father's corpse, too ashamed and cowardly to face the pride's wrath once they found out he had caused Mufasa's death.
Trying to expel these thoughts from his head once and for all, he saw that the sun was almost at midpoint and began to head back to Priderock where Vitani was waiting for him. "The sun is beginning to set, both on this day and my time as king. Vitani will make a fine queen one day, but who will be her king?" he quietly pondered out loud.
