Having gone to sleep as a tiger deep within an untamed jungle, Aibu had planned on waking up in the same body, in the same place. After all, there was no reason for him to expect anything else.
He was rather horrified when he opened his eyes the next morning to see nothing around him but plains, with hot sun beating down and nothing on the ground but long dry grass, hot, dry sand, and the occasional tree, bush, rock or other small thing. No jungle in sight. "How did i get here..." he wondered to himself.
Deciding to get up, Aibu stretched and immediately felt that something was not right. He wasn't sure what, but something about his muscles and body in general felt different than before. He froze, and a chill ran down his spine when he looked slightly down and saw, instead of his familiar orange muzzle and pink nose, a yellow muzzle and dark gray nose, with black stripes going from the corners of his eyes to the corners of his mouth. He didn't move a muscle for almost ten minutes, trying to figure out why his muzzle was like this, and if anything else had changed. His mouth felt different inside; moving his tongue around, he felt a slightly different arrangement of teeth than before. Deciding he had to look eventually, he turned his head down and looked at himself. He gasped in horror as he saw the body of a cheetah, his familiar tiger features entirely gone.
He struggled to get to his paws, helplessly trying to figure out how to do so with the new, more slender, different body. The fact that his claws wouldn't retract was quite annoying; he was used to keeping his claws sheathed when not in use, and apparently these didn't have that ability. It was just one more thing that made his paws feel weird, further adding to his difficulty in handling himself.
He managed, eventually, to stand, but only fell the instant he lifted one paw to take a step. "Ow..." he said, finding that at least his speaking voice was the same as before. Growling in frustration, however, revealed a different growl than before. His roar was gone, replaced by a meow, toward which he was unsure what negative emotion he was going to feel.
Aibu was thirsty, but knew nothing of the layout of the land. Hoping to stumble upon a waterhole, he simply began to crawl. "How stupid must I look right now..." he thought to himself as he looked half-dead crawling the way he was.
