Random Acts of Kindness

Postby Arani » October 19th, 2012, 3:27 am

So just as the title says. Have you given someone a random act of kindness, or has someone given one to you?

One time I was wanting a ticket to go to a school play. I went in but I wasn't told beforehand that the ticket prices had gone up, and I wasn't going to be able to pay for the ticket, our money was very tight back then and I only had so much on me. Then another older student stopped all of the work he was doing, walked up to me and payed for the rest of my ticket, I was 5 dollars short. He didn't give me his name or anything, just packed up and left. This was around the end of the year, and I recognized his photo in the year book. He graduated that year, so I never got to repay him.

Since then I've rediscovered this Random Act of Kindness stuff, and have decided to start giving back some kindness. The world needs more Kind acts. ^^

I can't speak for him or anyone, but what he did I'm sure he wanted nothing in return. Kind acts as you call them are definitely needed in this world. It is something I think a lot of the world has forgotten about. As cities grow and populations burst many times it becomes all about the money to some people. I have always lived by the philosophy give and it is given back. It is more of unliteral sense, because you don't actually expect the same to happen or something in the same form to happen. You just know and feel that something good will happen to you, because you made someone else have that feeling of joy and happiness. It is something everyone needs to think about. If everyone stopped and cared enough for each other than think of the how problems of this world could be solved. :)

Edit:

I originally just responded to the idea, but there are many times when I have given and also have been given too. Infact just recently I had been weighing on wither or not to sell some College Football Tickets I have had, but really didn't want to go. A man that works in the warehouse where I pick up my DFI's, or basically packages I deliver to businesses with my job, has a daughter and he mentioned how he wished he could go see one Razorback game with her, but he had never had the money to get tickets as they are worth $55 each. When I heard about it I really thought that it'd be better I gave them than to sell them. I figured why not bless a man with something he has been wanting than sell them for really no profit at all. Of course I could really only give him my ticket, but I talked with my dad about him giving his ticket since he wasn't going either. My dad agreed and thought it would really be a good thing to do. So I gave my ticket along with my dad's ticket to the man. Was he ever happy he almost started crying. He shook my hand and said "Thank you so much." As I was about leave he ran up to catch me and to my surprise gave me a hug. I guess it goes to show that he really was thankful for those tickets.

I helped a little kid at Chuck-E-Cheese's figure out where his tickets came out of the game he was playing. Other than that, nothing really comes to mind. I'm sure there are other instances, but eh, I can't recall right now.

No better way to spend extra energy than on other people!
Just the other day I got off the train and I got off the left platform of the station. On the way out a woman was standing just outside the platform with her baby in a pram. She asked "Is there anyway to get to the other platform from here other than going over the bridge?"
And there isn't, and it's quite a big bridge to cross with a lot of sets of stairs. So after explaining to her that there wasn't, I offered to help cary the pram over the bridge.
Which I did. I was walking backwards and carrying it from the front over the stairs and stuff.

Little things like that I try to do for sure unless I really have no time to spare.

If I see someone struggling with something, i use my common sense and ask if I can help at all. Like, our town is full of old people. Lol. If I see someone whos dropped something or looking confused I usually go to their aid.

I always try to help people out whenever I can, I hate it when people just watch someone struggle and do nothing about it! It honestly makes me lose faith in humanity. I can't think of any major situations where I've been able to make a huge difference, it's usually minor things I encounter in everyday life, such as giving up my seat on a packed train/bus to an elderly person, or holding doors open for people in wheelchairs. I don't even reflect over these things; to me it's just common sense. You simply don't insist on staying in your seat while there's a person nearby struggling to stand up. That's beyond selfish.

I try doing at least one good deed everyday, be it lending someone a bit o' money or helping them out of a custard- today I gave 30p to a guy in my class who needed a drink. Doesn't seem like much, but he seemed extremely grateful. Plus we all know its the little things that get us through the day =D like the sun was a tad brighter than usual today, made me really happy lol xD

Lolwut? It is a legal requirement over here that you give up your seat if an elderly, disabled, or expecting mother is in need of it. At least, there are signs that say you have to, so I assume it is a legal thing.
But yeah, its still common decency rather than an act of kindness.

Well there's no rule here that says that you HAVE to give up your seat. At least not that I'm aware of. There are no signs or anything either. On buses there are usually certain sections intended for the old and disabled, but it's not exactly illegal to occupy those either. People do all the time, and still refuse to move if someone who actually needs it comes along =/

The way I see it, people are out there giving their lives for people, so the least we can do is offer a few minutes of our time.
