Living with lions, anyone?

Postby KopaLeo » August 17th, 2011, 8:29 am

So 1.5 year ago, I read about the amazing story of Christian the lion. And since then I knew that :) I need to do this!!
From then I gathered more stories about some humans living with lions. Here's a few.

The Lion Whisperer Kevin Richardson, zoologist and animal behaviouralist, lives with lions in South Africa.

Steve Sipek. "Tarzan" Actor Lives With Lions, Tigers. Steve Sipek has provided sanctuary to more than 100 lions, tigers and leopards.

Roar(1981) An incredible homemade movie which took 11 years to make. Also check out the Roar Foundation.

Born Free(1966) and the Born Free Foundation. I remember reading about George Adamson's story on my elementary textbook.

I'm currently planning to go to Kenya to live with lions after I get too old for the development of physics, which I estimate to be 40 to 50 years old. This approximation is attained by studying the contributions of Newton, Einstein and other great scientists'.(When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. ~ Arthur C. Clarke) If lions are already extinct by that time, then I won't know what to do

When I was little, I lived with a cheetah and a leopard. The cheetah was just a cub when we got him, the farm next door had trapped a mother and her cub. He shot the mother and was about to shoot the cub when I offered him 50 Rand for it. Not alot but I didn't want the baby to die :( When he was old enough to go back to the wild, we let him go but he kept coming back each time. Guess he wanted to stay with me lol.

The leopard just moved onto our land and we couldn't get rid of it. It never touched the livestock, but rather kept coming up to the house when it was feeding time. So she always got a bit of meat around the same time the cheetah was fed. Cheetah was really tame and affectionate but the leopard would only let you touch her when she felt like it. I remember one year she had her cubs under the house >.<

Do you want to live with wild lions or tame lions?

Well, not very tamed lions. My plan is to get a big reserve and build a camp in it. Raise a pride of lions and let them use the camp as a base. And I will try to use animal behavior knowledge to let them regard me as one of the pride. Like the Lion Whisperer Kevin Richardson(check it out in Youtube).
