^ ....... Is this article serious? Never mind the fact that women already usually receive lesser sentences for the same crimes as men. Never mind the fact that many of the problems in women's prisons are existent in male prisons. Yes women commit less crimes than men. Saying as such isn't sexist. It's just a fact. And yes, women often commit crimes of a different variety than men. The prison system is broken for both men and women, and something needs to be done about it. But giving women preferential treatment isn't the answer. If a woman commits the same type of crime as a man, it's only fair she receives the same type of punishment. The issue isn't imprisoning women when they commit crimes. The issue is that the prison system is utterly broken. Some issues are unique to men, and some are unique to women. Some are just inherent in the prison system in general. But acting as if women never commit any wrongdoing is the wrong way to go about it.
