I can't say I fully relate as I knew where I was going to go after high school by the time I graduated but from what you've said it seems like the best option by far is to try to figure out a way to get your license and a way to drive yourself. It might seem intimidating but you know, it's probably better than the alternative, and you kinda have to learn eventually anyway so why not start now?

In any case, I remember the days of waiting around on my dad (who went to school, then worked) or trying to get rides off other people and let me tell you, I do not miss them. The ability to choose when and where you can drive yourself just makes life so much easier and I honestly think it was worth the trouble. Plus you are 18 - which I wasn't - so you already have the advantage of not having to waste time and money on driver's education like I did.

So if I were you, I would just go for it. :) It might cost a little bit of money but you can remind your parents of how much easier getting a job will be for the both of you if you won't have to rely on them (or other people) for rides.

Just my thoughts.

Hope you figure things out.
Oh I quite understand. I've been pretty rushed the past few months and everything is stressful and frustrating when you can't figure out how to get from where you are to where you want to be. Don't let your parents pressure you too much though! I know it's really hard not to feel rushed and pressured by the things parents say, and sometimes they can be the opposite of helpful and make things a million times harder, but in the end it's your life, not theirs, and if you can afford to wait at all you need to take your time and figure out what you should be doing; it's not smart to just sit around doing nothing, but you also shouldn't be out applying for jobs that you know you can't do or anything like that, either. If you get into something you absolutely can't do, you'll end up bailing practically immediately and that's gonna look bad on you. That's what happens if you rush. I guess the best thing is to pace yourself.

For that matter, it would probably be a good idea to do something like what Flip was telling me to do the other day: give yourself little goals each day of something you can do that will get you a bit closer to moving on in life. It makes things a little bit more manageable that way.
Yeah, I'll give that at a go. I think I may have to try to get a job that's within walking distance, since I have no car or license, and I can't rely on my parents for rides. Of course, my worry with that is that I'd have to walk home at night. Given my extreme paranoia and fear of the dark (yes, I still fear the dark. Don't judge.) I'm worried that isn't a good option either. I dunno. I'll figure it out.

Oh god, within walking distance will be tough; trying to find work within one town is pretty difficult. Not that you can't do it, but yeah, if possible, take Twin's advice and find a way to get your license and access to a car; being able to travel independently will be a big help.

Yeah. It'll be tough, or at least the car thing will be, but I see no other viable solution in the longterm.

Time for bed, me thinks. Had a short work day, but my last call was 2 1/2 hours long so that was unfortunate. Then I had choir rehearsal and since then I've been doing some cleaning and just random browsing on the internet.

FireandSun - You've just finished high school. I'd atleast take a month to chill before you even THINK about looking for a job. You deserve a rest. As for driving, if it helps I was nervous as anything when I had my driving lessons. I hated it so much, but I just thought of all the doors it would open up if I had that licence under my belt :3 Now driving doesn't phase me at all. It's one of those things that gets easier once you've done it a few times :) Best of luck.

Me to my partner last night whilst reading my walking dead comic - I'm just gonna read a few pages before I go to sleep.
