I can understand why you would want to have independence, as it would grant complete freedom over your own laws, politics, industry and defense ect ect. In-fact would probably feel the same if it were my country, purely out of patriotism-however, The facts are far more important.

BUT-It's a big risk because there is a lot of uncertainty as to whether Scotland could realistically support itself. Scotland would no longer be able to use the pound which is one of the strongest currencies in the world.

Also, Scotland would have to reapply to the EU, which it would need to survive because of harsh trade tariffs outside of it. Because, let's face it-none of us home nations are an America :P

Scotland's major industry is oil and I very much doubt that the English government would let them go. Without them the Scottish economy would be severely damaged.

All of the home nations rely on each other for economic and military help. Losing this mutual help would damage both nations and help no one.

This isnt a rant-im just putting forward the opposing argument.

And you're not buggering off with our nukes :nehneh:

^ I sincerely want to see a debate about Scottish indepedence on here, I lean towards pro-independence for Scotland but don't know enough about UK politics to have a legitimate debate on it. Would be interesting to see what people think.

^ If others are interested, the World Issues board is certainly available for such discussions.

The only reason England actually panics at the prospect of Scotland leaving them is because of the natural resources we offer to our shared economy. That and the big effing nuke nobody wants over here. So feel free to come collect it whenever you like! You love it so much, YOU can have it sitting in your waters ;)

I'd love to see a Scottish independence debate too, but I doubt very much that it's even worth talking about. I seem to find that when discussing it with non-Scottish people, I'm always made out to be far angrier than I am. It sort of comes with being Scottish unfortunately. Oh, that darn angry Scot talking about wanting to have freedom for their country... either that or it's turned into a big stupid Braveheart joke. I mean, I care about it so much, I have done so since 2014. But it exhausts me now.

In this scenario, I'd much rather pretend than have to face the reality that we STILL belong to England.

The nuke bit was a joke :P

Also, im not so sure whether a future English government would take kindly to having the oilfields taken away-after all, we're not above going to war over a bunch of islands haha

To anyone that knows what they are talking about-the UK is a mutual union between countries-only uneducated people think that England owns Scotland. In-fact, the UK monarchy was originally Scottish :P

Ouch. You dissolve any substance to your arguments when you resort to name-calling, please remember that.

Two countries? There are four countries in the UK - England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.
