Finally getting regular word back from my training people. So glad things are moving again. Just need to send the bank transfer and get my kit ordered then I'll have a confirmation date for starting. I wonder if there's a kit specifically made for the course for the business I'm being trained by, or if I'll have to buy it all separately? I checked the website, and some things on my list weren't there. Hm...

Either way, once that's done, I can get my college application sent away. Things are looking up career-wise.

If it goes against your values then fair enough-but conscription does have many benefits for society.

Just wondering, what do you think it contributes to society?

If this is about discipline, in all fairness I think that should be left to a schooling program or something else other than military service so it won't be so controversial. (And from personal observation it's not always successful in instilling discipline either... Least not to the men in my family that have served but still have none of the self control they were supposed to have after their service, to put it lightly. )

I think it really helps reduce unemployment and crime rates as it takes the uneducated and unruly youngster off the streets.

It improves the general health of the population which means that the national health service/health sector will not be put under as much strain and would therefore save millions.

I realise you say that discipline should be taught by schools, and i agree-but unfortunately quite a lot of the time that just isn't the case. Also promotion and the direct leadership of people that comes with it gives a sense of responsibility as well as discipline.
