I'll leave my desire to continue placing my thoughts into that thread for now. It's the same thing every time. With a subject as debatable as that, though, it's hard for the two sides to not sound as though they're yelling at each other. It's almost impossible to come across as calm, even if you actually are. :ermm:

In the meantime, dear god I have to finish this chapter already. Brain! Fingers! Keyboard! Start working together, please.

What the actual *bleep*. Alarm was set wrong and my breakfast was thrown away. Talk about a terrible way to start a semester.

Gender inequality in general is a tough topic to tackle, TBH. Because we all come from different backgrounds, have differential society norms and values, it is very hard to give a one size fits all answer about Feminism. The west and east have always been culturally different. The world is divided. We are not created equal.

Unless the topic is scaled down to specifics, there's no correct answer.

Yeah that's the biggest put-off for me, people from both sides tend to come off as aggressive and it's really deterrent to healthy and civilised discussion. Not worth risking your sanity over. Not to mention if you're a moderate feminist you get hate from both sides because one thinks you're a feminazi and judges you as such constantly in these discussions when it's not even close to the truth and the other thinks you're not really a feminist because you don't support their agenda. Just... nope, nevermind, discussion over.

Yeah, the discussion has been really West-centric. I don't think there's many people who wouldn't support feminism when it comes to the East where women's rights are very... questionable.

^ In the west, society tends to be more open minded to new ideas while the east takes on a more traditional role. As the world make technological shift in the upcoming decades and more western influence, I feel that there will be more power shifts towards women everywhere. Because they will be more educated, and perhaps recognized by the government as a valuable resource. Just like in the case of Japan. Abe is pushing for gender equality.

But some refuse to see all these changes benefits, that's why we are being stuck like this.
