Just figured I'd add that. We've had some pretty interesting discussions before, lol.
Thanks.
I like those discussions too, it's just that they don't happen very often. I visit this site maybe once or twice a day, but it's hardly even once or twice a week that I see something that's worth replying to. I read a lot of posts here, but so many aren't really open-ended in a way that could lead to genuine discussion. Most of the time I realize that I have nothing profound to say in response to anyone, so I close the tab and go to another site.
I love getting to hear people's opinions on controversial or otherwise difficult topics, even though I often give the impression that I'm pretty firm in my beliefs. When it comes to a certain few things, yes, but for the most part I try to keep an open mind. Most of what I use the internet for isn't to laugh at funny cats, search for news, or to tell people what color shirt I'm wearing, but instead to find out what people think about random topics and chime in where I can. A lot of what I say in discussion threads is information that I synthesized after talking to someone in real life or reading a previous and similar discussion thread. Other times, I'll say things just because I want someone to consider and respond to it. I don't always believe what I say--but I want to know what other people believe about what I say, so that's why I bring it up.
I'm kinda going off on a tangent here, but what I mean is that this community isn't really the best for that. Maybe it once was back when the old smarty pants board was still here and there were many more active members, but times have changed and so have many of the members here. It's very rare that interesting topics come up, so I spend much more time on other forums. I don't just want a blog where I ramble on about things; there's something special about forums that lends to actual discussion and interaction that I really like. This forum has such potential, but the actual
discussion just isn't here in any abundant quantity.
Pretty much. I visit this forum almost daily but I don't usually even sign in, just scroll down and see that threads such as these are still the only active topics, roll my eyes and reflect on a better time and close the tab.
I've always said that I'd just "leave" MLK by just kind of logging in less and less and that's pretty much what happened.
I doubt it will ever be as active here as it was when I first joined but I'm glad I was there when it did.
It almost feels like MLK now has a new generation of members and only us few old timers are left like "Soooo anyone want to talk about the upcoming elections?"
