I'm actually very scared right now. My mom and her fiancé came across fresh mouse droppings when they went to the stable that we board our horses at. My moms fiancé went to get a wheel barrow to get the bag of bran that the mouse got into and low and behold the mouse was in the wheelbarrow and it was a deermouse. Deer mice are most commonly known for carrying the hantavirus. The hantavirus is very deadly. Over several generations, my region has only had 29 cases. BUT 24 out of those 29 people died. And the bag of bran was in a small, dark, dusty tack room that gets no sunlight. So there was no sun to help kill the virus, there was no airflow, and it's dusty so if this mouse did happen to be sick, the virus had a chance to become very airborne. In the past two days I have had two beginning symptoms of hantavirus. I want to cry. FML.
