My gf is having a Harry Potter moment, lol, she'd fit in both Slytherin and Gryffindor and is trying to decide which to claim (almost definitely in favor of Gryffindor).

This amuses me greatly. Either way, I'm a proud Hufflepuff, and we get along with pretty much everyone.

Found out recently that my friend's father is very sick. He might not have long to live.

Cancer is horrible. I hope that some day science can advance to the point where it can be eradicated/cured completely.
