^ God, so much nostalgia. I'm not even that much of a gamer but my Gamecube was pretty much one of the main things of my childhood. Losing the save files like that would be equivalent to taking a huge chunk of my time as a child, putting it in a box, and then vaporizing it in the sun. * - * For a detailed comparison. x)

But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if you felt the same. :| Even though it's not 'real' its still a lot of invested time.

^ I lost everything me and my brother spent years on in Smash Bros Melee, lost my Resident Evil (1, 0, 4), Sonic Heroes, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD, Eternal Darkness, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers, and so so so many more. It's just like, crushing man. But somehow my memory card got effed up and had to be reformatted before the system would recognize it.... I tried in vain so many times to make it work before letting it do that, but... alas, to no avail. Years of memories and progress and achievements, just... gone.

I don't even have half those games, but I know that if I lost even just SSBM (or Sonic Heroes), it would be devastating, not to mention the other 30+ games I spent most of my childhood on. (Gamecube was the only system I had growing up so there's a lot on my 2 cards...)

I have to admit, though, that makes me worried. Did this just happen out of the blue? Is there no way to back those up? .___________.

^ I'm not sure what caused it. Could be the mice messed it up, or any number of things. It's mostly been tucked safely into a case, but... there have been times when we were cleaning or something that memory cards were loose... Probably something happened to that metal strip they tell you to be careful of.

Other than copying the files to another memory card, I don't know of any way to back them up. Unfortunately, that was not an option for me.

Like I said, even losing my Smash Bros progress would suck since I have pretty much everything done and unlocked in that game. .__________. I just leave them in the system most of the time, luckily I don't touch them too much and haven't had any problems... hope it stays that way.

Last month I started a mission : collect every game console and the core games for each (the ones that were either well critically or commercially received or both).
Because of this I concluded the Gamecube is the 2nd best console of all time in terms of how many must own games it had. It's just ahead of the N64 in that regard IMO.

So many great exclusives. In fact the quote in my sig at the moment is from Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem, which people need to play because it's just great!

If I ever lost my PS1 memory card I think I'd destroy the house in rage. XD

Yeah, that one game had me and my brother pretty messed up to have lost... we had ALL the characters and most everything else too. We spent literally hundreds of hours on that game. Yes, that's a good idea, you'd be wise to do that. Not sure where you'll find a Gamecube card these days though, other than maybe Amazon or eBay or something.

I totally agree about Eternal Darkness (although technically the quote comes from "the Raven" but the game does credit Poe and I'm sure you prolly knew that anyway, just for those who don't, and of course I heard/read the quote on that game before I was ever able to read the poem, and it always fascinated me and I will forever associate it with that game for the rest of time but I'm rambling and will stop now. ) I fortunately haven't ever lost the ps1 card, I'd probably destroy something if I lost my FFIX save.


Anyway guys, I'm trying not to let this bother me too much as some day I will move away from the folks and siblings and the console and about half of those games technically aren't mine so I'd have lost the ability to use those saves anyway, but... still. Dammit.
