The emotional part of relationships is completely linked to physical affect, the feel of touching, the sole having that person in front of you and looking at her/him, hugging, kissing, feel eachother...

Julie Skywalker wrote:Can I say for sure that mine will last forever? No, I can't. But I can say that I highly doubt it won't work, because we two have a real connection that was there before we got together and would still be there at this point whether we had decided to be a couple or not.

What determines if a relationship will work or not is if both people love each other and if both people try to make it work. Other factors are pretty much irrelevant from my standpoint.

Your standpoint is focused on what you want to believe, I think once you have one irl your point of view will likely be changed.

Not really. That can be a big part of it, but emotional bonds can be formed in many other ways.

Don't get me wrong, I would much prefer to be in a real relationship than a long distance one. For me, that physical aspect is a big component of a relationship, and I'm not sure that I'd ever consider it official until I've met in person and we've spent a few days together.

I couldn't do that whole long distance thing, although sometimes I wonder if I could, under certain circumstances. Like, if I happened to be in Julie's situation.

But what everyone expects out of a relationship is different. If such expectations can be met over the internet, I see no problem with this.

The way I see it, is that online relationships are somewhat like religions. It's all emotional. It's no different from people's relationships with their God(s). You can argue about whether or not it exists, but at the end of the day, if the belief that someone is watching over you or thinking about you helps you sleep at night, there you go.

---

On a somewhat-similar note, I think what matters most is that the relationship feels right to you. And, by that, I mean this:

If there is any doubt in your mind that it will work out, it won't work out in the long term. If you ever think for a moment, "Is this what I really want?" then the answer is no. Because, in such a case, it isn't what you want.

If you're truly in love, you're not going to question anything.

But I've been in a relationship for as long as zero seconds, so what the hell do I know.

FALSE. Emotional part can not be completely linked to physical. Why? For that would be like saying that Emotional = Physical. And since when does something tangible equal something intangible? Reevaluate that and you'll see that Love is not about whether or not your partner is the sexiest thing in the world. Or eye candy for that matter. I've been with Lauren since September of 2012, and I have seen her 5 times in total in real life, and each with about two hours intervals except the very last time I spent the whole day with her. We live 1300 miles apart, and I am working and shaping my life to prepare for her as well as my future. You have to care and nurture a relationship just like anything else in this word. Long Distance relationships force couples to "Talk" and actually allow them to share their feelings. Short distance ones promote more of a physical attraction; which I may add doesn't always remain. And if all you ever think about is having you know what and not even really caring about the person than I guarantee you that your relationship is going to end. Physical attraction doesn't fuel emotional attraction. Emotional attraction will fuel physical attraction. Otherwise every lets just say "Las Vegas Prost.." would be married...

littlelionman wrote:Your standpoint is focused on what you want to believe, I think once you have one irl your point of view will likely be changed.

This is implying that the relationship will end, and that she is focused on a false hope. You stand on a viewpoint that isn't fact, but a mere observation. Just because something is likely to happen doesn't warrant it to happen. Your standpoint is focused on what you also "want to believe," based on statistics. Statistics say that you won't win the lottery, but someone always wins. Think of "The Law of Large Numbers" which states, "every event with non-zero probability - however small - will eventually occur. Or put another way: given enough chances, even the most unlikely event is certain to happen."
