That's pretty much how buying textbooks is in college. They're expensive!
In my case, I only need to buy one or two textbooks and, even so, my most expensive textbook is around $18. If no book is required, professors usually provide booklets that contain everything that is needed for the class - the prices for these can vary between $1 and $15, though.
I do need to buy actual books for Literature classes, but, even so, I usually find them at pretty low prices, so that I don't spend a lot of money.
