Hello all!
Today TG and I went to the SPCA again, and now my household consists of two cats. A beautifull pitchblack tomboy had picked me, to care for him. The story about him is that he was found as a stray, and he has resided at the SPCA for over a year. To my surprise, when TG and I picked up Fleur back in late Januari, this tomboy was still a bit shy of me. I think having Fleur for a while, has made me gain experience, and I don't doubt that this tomboy felt that I do have experience.. The SPCA employee was happily surprised to see that Moor (the tomboy) even gave lovebites, and started licking my hand. He had never done that to anyone visiting the cattery before.
Right now, poor Fleur is seeking comfort sitting on my desk, whilst Moor is resting on the couch right beside me. Both are within arms length. Moor even came on the bed, whilst TG and I decided to take a little rest for ourselves. There were no toilet-problems as far as I can tell. But even if one of the two cats might pee or poo outside the cat-toilet, then it is just a temporary effect. Yet I won't go mad about it. As a pet-owner you know the risks, of adding a stress-factor to the household. It are not the cats who are responsible for making a mess, if they decided to do so, but me the owner for adding that stress-level in the first place..
Yet after about a month or two, I hope that the cats will be great buddies. Yet I am aware that this might take even longer, but I'll give it time. Time will tell. Good thing about Moor is that he is very curious about it all. He even approached Fleur face to face, to sniff, yet not in an threatening way. Moor has a toenail establishment for himself, not purely wanting to be the dominant one, although I estimate he is older then Fleur. Moor knows Fleur was here first, and whilst Fleur is a bit nervous about it all (Seeking comfort sitting on my desk, positioning herself between TG and me.) Moor on the other hand, does remain a bit distant to her. Moor is seemingly very relaxed, he also doesn't mind being touched by me or TG, and he even comes asking for being petted. It is quite odd to see that Moor already follows me, to the room I go too. Even if it is not immediatly, yet it happens. Probably he wishes to feel comfortable. Great to see that both cats have that drive to survive, to seek what's best for them. But again: Fleur will be fine after a while, especially since this only has been her first day together with Moor.
In the end, it's the best for both cats, both will have a buddy to communicate with, in their own language. Even whilst it is still a fragile bond, both leave each-other be. But I have to say I feel a bit sorry for poor Fleur. She's worried to "lose" her territory, but if she remains to keep a dominant posture, she'll be fine. She has been an Alpha after all.
Both do just great, and I'll soon post some photo's of Moor, when it's daytime, for snapping some good pictures.
To be continued..
