I thought it was pretty bad, looking back, but I haven't played the games and I think I was 12 or something, so... ehhh.
On the subject of video game movies - Scott Pilgrim and Wreck-It Ralph were both good. Personally, I love Wreck-It Ralph... I thought it was a great film by itself, actually, even if you ignore the video-game aspect of it. I think it lost the Academy Award for Best Animated Film to Brave, or something... I remember being upset about that.
But I think a lot of it, too, was that I was really surprised. The ads made it look like a generic video game movie pandering to nostalgia. Like honestly... the ads made it look horrible. I think that movie could've done so much better in that regard. Because I was actually really, really surprised by that one...
Also, whoever said the WoW movie is five years late hit it on the nose. Sorry, but it's just not as big anymore. Maybe there are people who still play (hardcore fans), but if you really wanted to capitalize on current trends, you'd make a League of Legends movie or something. WoW isn't nearly as much of a pop culture thing as it was 5 years ago. It'd be like making a movie on the Jonas Brothers or 1 Direction.
On a separate note, they are making an Angry Birds movie. The idea of that sounds terrible and... yep, also five years behind the times. At least.
Oddly enough, the trailer actually didn't look horrible... but I will wait to reserve judgment and/or get my hopes up, because honestly... the idea of an Angry Birds movie just seems weird to me. It's like a late attempt at a cheap cash cow. But who knows. I might be wrong, I guess.
