Do You Think the Word "Tween" is Real?

If humans use it as a medium to communicate an idea or action then it is a word, people obviously DO use it as a medium for communicating ideas and actions, so its a real word

I think we mean "tween" in the sense of somebody's age group.

It really depends on how you look at it, really. If you see the growing age as Infant, toddler, child, tween, teen, and adult, it really doesn't matter much. It's just another way of saying "in-between" something. It's not specificly included in the age growing thing, but some people use it. Though nonetheless, it doesn't matter.

tween means in-between kid and teenager. usually it's used for 10-12, since they're double digits but not into the teens yet.

and since words are added to the dictionary every year, even slang, I'd say it's a word.

And there must be a reason why "tween" hasn't been added...probably because it's more made-up than the word "muggle".

how can it be more made-up than muggle? that's just some term used in a fantasy series that no one uses in real life. tween is used by people, it used to be pretty big here for awhile. mostly those who use it are tweens themselves, not wanting to be referred to as kids. but I've heard some adults use it before too.

does anyone have a recent or unabridged dictionary? that might have tween in it...all mine are pretty dang old...like older than me lol.

Tween is a word. It's in the Miriam-Webster dictionary with two definitions. The first is a shortened form of "between" and the other is the one we are discussing here. It's also been around a lot longer than most people think.

Tween is a term originally coined by J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973) in The Fellowship of the Ring for a hobbit between the ages of 20 and 32.

But it first became used as it is today in the 60's.
