Was Scar Around For Kovu's Birth?

In The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, during the scene when Simba first interacts with Zira after Cubby Kovu and Cubby Kiara are playing together, Zira makes two statements that really got me thinking about something. That, and I had commented on a Fan Fiction here on MLK, which also had to do with some time plots in TLK, and there for, I thought I’d pose this question to you all. Do you think Scar was actually alive before Kovu was born, or do you think he was already hyena chow before that time? Here are the two direct quotes from Zira that sparked my curiosity in regards to this issue.

”Oh, haven’t you met my son Kovu? He was hand chosen by Scar to follow in his paw prints and become king.”
Now, this quote would lead us to believe that Scar was around when Kovu was born, unless he just assumed that Zira was carrying a male cub when she was pregnant with Kovu before Scar got what was coming to him.

”Kovu was the last born, before you exiled us to The Outlandes, where we have little food, less water…”
Now, this statement here seems to kind of contradict the first, as it wouldn’t make any sense that Simba would have banished The Outlanders BEFORE Scar had been killed, so this would mean that Kovu was born after Scar’s death, am I wrong? There’s just no way in my mind that these two statements could both be true, now could they? They just seem to contradict one another, so that’s why I posed this question, to see what you all thought.

Now, keeping in mind both those quotes, we also have to wonder just how much time there was between Scar’s death and the banishing of all The Outlanders. This leaves a pretty wide open window for Kovu’s birth, but assuming we compare him to Nuka, who most likely WAS around when Scar was still alive, I’d say that there wasn’t too much time during the course of when Scar died, up until the banishing of The Outlanders. So I really doubt that Kovu would have been born before Scar died. This would mean to me, that Scar just assumed that Kovu would be a male, which for his sake, he was. Lol.

Not exactly the most thought provoking thing in TLK2SP, but I figured it was worth pointing out to all of you, just in case some of you never thought about this issue too. Hehe. I probably wouldn’t have taken this into much consideration if it wasn’t for reading that certain Fan Fic, which helped to get my mind in gear. J So, what do you all think? Was Scar really around for the birth of Kovu or did he just have a lucky premonition that Zira was carrying a male cub to follow in his paw prints, hmm?

Hmm, one guess I have is that Zira was either delusional or was contacted by Scar's spirit in the same way Mufasa contacted Simba. That way Kovu could have been born a fair time after Scar's death, and still be hand-picked.

Another theory is that Zira was just making this entire chosen one thing up to add to the fear factor that Kovu would possess, and she forgot to keep her story exactly straight with the time period.

There is a quote in the deleted scenes of TLK2SP, that I don't have much to say about, but I want to point out.

Zira: Remember, Scar took you in and accepted you as his own son.
Kovu: But he wasn't my father.
Zira: No, but he chose you to become the next king!

Could this mean that Kovu is just the 'adopted' son of them, even with Kovu's obvious somewhat-resemblance to Scar?

Kovu has to be adopted =\ Because you know, if he wasn't, Kiara and Kovu would be related XD and everything would be so...odd O.o But I did notice the resemblance between the two, even though they aren't relate.

Now to KM's point. I kinda think, that Scar wasn't around when Kovu was born, but at the same time I do. Maybe Simba exiled everyone after Kovu's birth, which could of been before Simba got there, you see? =\ So, maybe Scar was around.

Your right about the NBS, I was thinking the same thing. What I think is that Scar told ira that her next cub, would be the heir. Which I think Vitani was born to Zira, but Zira kidnapped Kovu and she killed Kovu's real mother. And Zira just made Kovu the heir to Scar. So, I really don't think Scar was around for Kovu's birth.

That would go against what Zira said, though:
Zira: "He was hand chosen by Scar..."
Hand chosen means that Scar and Kovu would've been alive and well when Kovu was chosen as Scar's heir. They would've met face to face, which from this recent discovery, seems unlikely. Great points KM. Indeed it would make no sense that the Outlanders were banished before Scar's death, because they were banished for being loyal to Scar. Since only Simba could banish them, and Simba arriving on the same day as Scar's death, not only does it not make sense - it's not possible.

I agree with Mike, I think we can blame alot of the oopsies in Simba's Pride on Zira's delusions. She was obviously...unstable...so it does make sense that she would've contradicted herself (multiple times).

I think Kovu should be older in SP. Unless I'm misunderstanding these quotes. It is possible Kovu was last born before they were exiled and have been hand chosen by Scar, I mean he might have just been a baby but its still possible right? And about Simba not meeting Kovu... that's totally possible as well, its not like Simba went and shook all their hands ...err... paws and went Hi! Nice to meet ya! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to banish you because you are loyal to my murderous uncle. Thanks! Bye! Lol also we don't know how long The Outsiders have been exiled because we don't know how much time has passed between the two movies. Right? Ah I dunno I'm confusing myself so undoubtedly I'm confusing all you guys.

Here's my theory: Disney needed some cash... so they decided to throw together a sequel with a nice pretty love story and a crap load of plotholes to make a quick buck. Which seeing as this went straight to video they probably didn't succeed in their master plot.

Zira was Kovu's real mother, but Scar wasn't his father. This means Zira had another partial mate. And personally I think Zira was carrying Kovu at the time of Scar's death.

It's 49% that Zira might not be Kovu's mother. But some people(the 49%) think Kovu's mothert was a outsider, but wasn't around during Scar's reign. But the other percent is the people think that Kovu's Zira's son. I'm one of the 49%
