TLK Themed Ice Cream Parlor

TLK Themed Ice Cream Parlor

Postby Jarrett » January 23rd, 2012, 4:01 am

Well, not really. Except for the name.
Image

It's located in Visalia, California, USA. I went here and if it wasn't for the sign that said "Hakuna Matata" you wouldn't be able to tell it had ANYTHING to do with TLK, which it really doesn't. No TLK decoration, no TLK named ice cream, no TLK anything, except for the name. Anyways, still thought it was neat and thought I'd share. At least the ice cream was good :P

I wonder how they managed that without a lawsuit.

Same, though I'm sure Disney has better things to do than sue a small independant ice cream parlor. It's not a chain of restaurants or anything, and this is the only one I've seen locally. Still, they sure are taking a risk.

Isn't "Hakuna Matata" already a touristy phrase though? Maybe they got it from somewhere other than TLK. :hmm2: Just a thought. :)

Hakuna Matata isn't copyrighted by Disney. It's two words. They didn't invent the words; they just used them to make a catchy song.

That's true. The first thing I thought of was this local place, it was a small independently owned bakery named Moulin Rouge--there was a big snaffu on the local news when the studio that made the movie (Universal? I don't remember,) descended on them with a lawsuit & made them change the name. A dinky little bakery in north New Jersey, not even a luxe place. Just on account of the name, there was another small un-affiliated place in NYC they sued into changing too.

The most obvious difference is that Moulin Rouge was the actual film name though, too, which I guess is what gave them the ability to do that.

I'd still be too concerned with imaginary legal headaches to try it if were my business, but hey, they're still there so cool on them.

But Moulin Rouge just means red windmill. It's just two French words. The shouldn't really have been able to sue for that I wouldn't think.
