I think we've come to the conclusion that it's just bad shading then.

I honestly think they look like ear markings. The artists could have forgotten that Simba grew out of them as an adult, and created this sequence with darker ears than he should have. The first picture just looks too dark to be shading, and it's in the wrong place when you compare it to the other angles of shading. *shrug* But that's just what I think.

it's blatantly obvious that it's shading. I can't understand how people could mistake it as ear rims. Ear rims are usually solid-colored, this one is kind of transparent, it's obviously shadows. It's dark and it's at the lower part of the ears. It's in the right place. No mistake here at all.

[quote="TheDoctor"]for shadows to appear like that on the ear the light would have to come from another angle than above.

To be properly placed on a TLK lion, they would be at the top of the ear.

But nevermind then :P I've noticed a couple more shots where the shadows on adult Simba's ears are wrong, but they're never as dark as they are in the scene mentioned in this topic, thusly why I thought they could be markings. They could be ear marks with shading :nehneh: In some shots we can't see the edges of Simba's ears at all, so they're generally pretty inconsistent.

In conclusion, I will consider it a colour or shading fault. Whether it's both or just one we will never know.

Nope. The shadow is there because of Simba's ear shape and the way he slightly hung his head. The upper part of the ear blocked the light from above ;)

Why this discussion is still going, I have no idea. :headache: the way the "rim" fades in and the general appearance screams "shadows!"

Not necessarily. Please note that people can still say what they want in this topic, regardless of the other posts made. In this case, I might even say that the lions do have ear rims...just not Simba. Throughout my fan-addiction with The Lion King, I always thought that the lions had dark ear rims...and I still do.

This, I have noticed, might actually be located in the Outlander's ears, not necessarily the Pridelanders. The Pridelanders, I have to admit, don't have any rim; it's merely shading.
