I don't think the TLK characters would celebrate Christmas--while there are certainly vague Christian-esque overtones to parts of the franchise, nothing specifically Christian is ever identified. I doubt they would celebrate Jesus's birthday.

Now Winter Solstice, as a natural occurence, they most certainly would've been aware of. I can see them celebrating that, although it's also good to remember that in the Southern Hemisphere the seasons are reversed. My guess is it would be very hot, lol.
Yes that seems more likely!!!
And it is very hot :x I wish it snowed!!!! But if you have an air-con... its alright!

....They actually had a little 4 part serial comic in the newspaper in 1994 that I'm pretty sure went with a winter solstice celebration.

I cut it out and have it in storage in my attic with my other older TLK stuff. I mean, it was a cheesey little thing, but from what I remember I'm pretty sure it went something like:

Simba was assigned to make the winter solstice celebration, and Scar & the hyenas try to mess it up somehow, but Simba of course manages to pull off a great party. I don't remember the exact deal cause it wasn't the finest quality story, but I remember at the end Scar & the hyenas end up in the lake.

Or maybe it was summer solstice. I don't totally remember truth be told, I just cut it out at the time cause it was TLK :p I WAS definitely a solstice celebration of some kind though!

.....Next time it's daylight out & I can get up into my attic (next weekend probably) I should try to dig it out.

EDIT: *hands Saffyminty a fan, lol*
