neither does anything you're saying either
and it seems rather silly to question any of us of being fans when we're on a TLK fansite. quite a few of us even created our own TLK fansites. I even paid money to buy a domain to provide as much as I could about my favorite movie. and generally, there's no question how much we all love the first movie. but the sequels just don't measure up to the original, as is sadly the case with so many of Disney's movies. TLK2:SP brought in many plot holes, and TLK1.5 in going for humor messed up some fans' favorite scenes from the original.
aside from this, if they pick up where they left off many of our favorite characters will be getting old and fading into the background further.
often, Disney makes movies in 3s and leaves it at that, with few exceptions. and if you'll recall, when the 2nd film came out on special edition DVD, it was advertised as, "Get this final chapter in The Lion King trilogy to complete you collection today!" which doesn't give us much hope. the ending also doesn't betray any sign of continuence.
one more thing is that just because someone says they're related to a Disney employee doesn't make it true. and even if they are, that doesn't mean they were told about any plans for movies. and you can't know for sure unless you're there.
finally, 2D hasn't returned to my dismay. all current animated movies in production are still 3D ish CGI, and there's no rumors that hold water of any upcoming 2D at the moment

it'd be wonderful if they did surprise us and create a worthwhile sequel in 2D, it's just the odds are against it.
