What if Simba had a sister or a brother?

Well, that would technically mean Scar would have tried to kill Mufasa, Simba, AND the other sibling, as they would have been in line for the throne before Scar. I simply can't imagine both of them getting out of that stampede, away from the hyenas, and BOTH being raised by Timon and Pumbaa. It would all be very strange, indeed.

I think I know why Simba's sister was cut early in production (along with the fact that will be yet another important character to voice, animate, etc...) And the reason is this:

In The Lion King, Scar has to make the announcement that both Simba and Mufasa died tragically in a stampede in the gorge. Not imagine if he would add yet another lion to that list... The more die in one event, the less believable it will be to be simply 'pure tragic coincidence'. The only other way is to eliminate them one by one... And someone just might connect the dots if that is done so.

This is what I think was another important element in the decision to remove Simba's sister.

Yes, but Simba's sister wouldn't be a male heir, and with Scar being the only male left in the pride, it would fall to him to be the king, anyway, so she wouldn't have had to die.
