What relationship do you like the best?

Postby DreamEater » January 29th, 2013, 2:23 am

I assume I should put this topic in SP because is revolves around stuff from the movie, but there's still some stuff about TLK 1, if it's in the wrong place a mod might be able to move or I can remake it somewhere else, so...

Anyways, whose father/son, mother/daughter, father/daughter or mother/son relationship do you like the best? Mufasa's relationship with Simba, Simba with Kiara, Sarabi with Simba, Nala with Kiara, Zira with Kovu, Zira with Vitani, Zira with Zuka or Sarafina with Nala?

Let me know if I'm missing someone, but to me personally, I really like Simba and Kiara and Mufasa and Simba. I like Mufasa's and Simba's because it's such a nice father-son relationship, Mufasa is strong and responsible, yet can still have fun with his fun-loving son, Simba. Though I personally like father-daughter or mother-son relationships the best.

Which is why I like Simba and Kiara, it's practically the same thing as with Simba and Mufasa, Simba grew up to be a lot like his father and when Kiara was a cub she was just like Simba, the We Are One scene was one of the best father-daughter scenes I've ever watched in my entire life, which is why it's one of my favorite parts of SP as well.

So what about you guys? Whose relationship do you like the best?

Darn. I looked for Simba - Nala, but as it wasn't here, I chose to go with Mufasa Simba. I really enjoy how Simba tries so hard to be like his father, and to continue to learn from Mufasa, even though Mufasa is dead, and Simba has to try and live up to the glorified and idealized version of Mufasa.

I know that there were some topics here about whether or not Mufasa was a good king, and what were his flaws if there were any.

And despite how perfect or not Mufasa was, in Simba's eyes, he is the very definition of perfection. So I find it very interesting how he tries to live up to a mathematical definition of a limit: He wants to be perfect, but at the end of the day, he can never be.

Simba and Mufasa by a long shot. How much Simba adores and looks up to him is what really is one of the best relationships in the movie, and even after his death Simba tries so hard to be the same as his father.

Since pretty much most of the users will jump on the Simba-Mufasa relationship bandwagon, I'll just choose the Simba-Nala relationship even though it's not listed. They made for cute friends at first, but I love how realistic their adult relationship came to be. Not seeing anyone who is very close to you and then seeing them again years later would reawake lost passions for them. Also, it comes from my love of their love song ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), which is my favorite song from the whole trilogy.

So, anyway, Realm, could you please add that to the list and probably the Timon-Pumbaa relationship? TLK 1.5 did a nice job exploring their relationship.

From what I've understood, this topic is only about parent/child relationships.

Also, since there are characters from both films in the poll I don't think this is the right place for it.

ETA: Moved it to Beyond The Lion King for now.

(oh, and I voted for Simba/Mufasa 8-) )

Thanks, AdAstra, for clearing that up. The reason Simba/Nala (or Timon/Pumbaa) is not listed because that's not what this topic is about. This is for parent and child relationships, not romantic kinds of relationships or just a kind of friendship relationship. Sorry if I used a bad word choice for it but that's why they aren't there.

Mufasa and Simba.

Although Sarabi/Simba and Sarafina/Nala are good for fanfics. :P

Very well. :/

Although I think the Simba-Mufasa relationship is the best relationship in the trilogy because it was better explored and was developed very well, I'll avoid jumping on the bandwagon, and just choose the Simba-Kiara relationship. "We are One" is my favorite song from Simba's Pride, and it did a nice job touching on their relationship. Second, I don't feel father-daughter relationships are as common in some animated movies as a father-son relationship is such as Alex/Zuba in Madagascar, Marlin/Nemo in Finding Nemo, Hiccup/Stoick in How to Train Your Dragon, Simba/Mufasa in TLK, Bambi/Great Prince of the Forest in the Bambi movies and so on. It's not to say that they aren't there, but it's just less common to me so I feel it's a breath of fresh air to see that type of relationship. And at the end of the day, their relationship is as realistic as the Simba-Mufasa relationship because fathers try to be protective over their daughters when they start to have boyfriend(s) and when they become older, but they still love and respect each other. I know I would if I had a daughter. XD

Although the father-son relationship between Mufasa and Simba is portrayed in a lovely way, and it is what defines Simbas character, I voted for the Simba/Kiara relationship.
Father/Daughter relationships fascinate me, as my own is, well.. not good, so I like to see animated/fictional characters deal with this.
I like how Simba and Kiaras relationship is really put to the test in SP, and how the movie explores Simbas story and how he relates to the past and present, and I am also a supporter of Kiara.

We don`t get to see much of Simba and Sarabis relationship, but I find mother/son and particularly mother/daughter relationships sorely underespresented in Disney movies, which is another reason I was so upset that Nala and Kiara barely spoke three words to each other in the whole movie.
The Sarafina/Nala relationship is probably the one that leaves most up to the imagination of the viewer, but I like to think they had a very good, close relationship.

As for Zira, all I can say is that I feel sorry for her cubs. :dramaqueen:
