How open about your TLK love are you?

How open about your TLK love are you?

Postby FlipMode » October 17th, 2010, 10:50 pm

I figured this might have been discussed before, but the search yielded no results and I was curious anyway :].

So today while I was away from my laptop for 5 miniutes, my mum went into my room to hang some T-shirts up or something. Anyway she found MLK open in full screen on my laptop and said "Are you looking at Lion King on the internet?" so I explained to her that yes I was and blah blah I love the film etc...
So she just laughed and was like "k". Also a time before that, my friend noticed the picture of my TLK "collection" still on my laptop, and was just like "In my opinion that really is quite sad, but to each their own, it's no different to me being obsessed with Cricket."

So I don't brag about my love for TLK, but when people do find out, I have no shame in explainging that i'm 19 years old and, not really obsessed but have a strong liking for the TLK films / fandom.
Which brings me onto the point of the topic I guess, how open about your obsession are you the MLK Community? Like do you try and keep it hidden from RL friends / family? Or do you walk around with a shirt that says "I LOVE THE LION KING!!!111!!"? Do you / would you maintain dignity if all your friends found out, do they already know? Let's hear it guys :).

I'm close to thirty years old and I am as open with my love for TLK as I am with my love for anyrhing else normal. I talk about it anywhere I feel like, to anyone I feel like, surf TLK sites anywhere I feel like and share my collection pictures with my FB friends, I have a movie poster, framed picture and a decoration plate haning on my walls, my Simba plushes are also very much viewable to anyone who steps into my home. As are all of my soft toys which I generally collect. All kinds of special animal soft toys.

And if I hear someone hasn't seen TLK I may burst into enthuastic advertising speach. trying to make them see how much they are missing out on. But at least I tell them so, it may not become an actual speach always.

Maybe it's just me but I thought it's commonly known Disney is not a childish thing but a family thing. Heck, Donald Duck is Disney too and I've never heard of anyone who thinks DD is childish! And I don't think TLK can be called a children's movie by any standards. Alongside Bambi, The Black Cauldron (minus the stupid, ridiculous ending), and Beauty and the Beast, it is one of the few Disney movies that are obviously NOT targetted essentially at children.

I'm pretty open about it and my friends and family accept it as a part of who I am.

Constantly being labeled as shy and reserved,I suppose I'm not extremely open about my love for TLK, or anything else for that matter. At least not orally  I generally prefer to leave little hints for my family and friends to find, like buying TLK merchandise such as posters and Simba plushes, or drawing Simba all over my notes (Sounds crazy I know) If they ask, I don't have a problem admitting that I'm a genuine Lion King fan, but it's not like I walk around talking about it nonstop 24/7.

I do this a LOT! Unless the specific person appears completely uninterested, then I usually go "It's a GREAT movie." and then change subjects xD

I wish it'd be more commonly known though, lots of people do seem to think that Disney = Sugarcoated princessy stuff aimed at children. Sure,it may be like that NOWADAYS, but certainly NOT back in the good old days.

I'm fully open,if they don't accept it they can bite me
Anyways, if I had friends that made fun of me everytime I talk about TLK, I wouldn't call them friends anymore.
Just my 2 cents...

I keep it to myself, appart from a few friends, but they don't care. I have told my family, my mum OCCASIONLY gives me TLK stuff from time to time. Even when I draw TLK Stuff during classes, no one notices they just say "Thats really good!" and etc. :thoughtful2:

Yeah, maybe one solution would be to say "I love The Lion King, which is part of the OLD Disney." or "Yes I love it and it's part of the OLD Disney." Then at least people would start wondering what difference does it make and ask or look into it and LEARN. ;)
