Yes, I'd say, if religious undertones being woven throughout a story, isn't your cup of tea, then you probably will dislike COTP for that reason, although, while the first TLK film never actually made a direct reference to God, you have to admit that there were at least a few spiritual/religious elements to the movie, i.e: the whole "Great King's Of The Past" bit, the heavenly rays of light being cast down to bless the newborn cub(s), Mufasa's spirit, etc, etc. Still, COTP does go a step beyond that, but I myself, not really being a religious person whatsoever, and the type who usually shys away from such subject matter, actually found that element of COTP quite compelling, just due to the creative way the writers were able to transform things into leonid terms. It came off as being believable to me, or at least, as believable as it could be given the circumstances of the stories themselves to begin with. I suppose if you are deeply rooted in a religion already though, it might be more difficult to get into the stories because of this fact.

On another note, I actually finished reading The Pridelanders today, or at least, all the parts that are included in that link above. I do have to admit, the story did become a lot more interesting and well flushed out in the later chapters. Once I got used to the first person perspective aspect of the story, it did grow on me. I still feel as though COTP does a little better job when it comes to evoking emotions out of me personally, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't any parts in The Pridelanders that didn't get me a little choked up inside.
Seems slightly pointless to post my minor gripes with the story here, as I do actually plan to leave a review for the author on FanFiction.net, but I honestly do wish there was a bit more character development with the other cubs, simply just because the author did such a nice job at creating depth and personality for Usiku, as well as Tama to a lesser degree though, but again, I have yet to check to see if there are actually more parts to the story like the author hinted at the end of the last chapter. Also, like I mentioned before, there are a few plot elements that make me scratch my head, since they seem like they either wouldn't really work, or they conflict with some other erlier point of the story, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this is, in fact, a very worthy read for any fan of TLK, and I thank you for the suggestion Azdgari. :)
*goes off to leave a review on the actual story now*
