The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)

Some good news.

Tlg has traditional musical numbers, and they're great according to a guy who won an award for animated music.

At least one fear has been put to rest.

Ok but not everyone agrees in the same taste of music, we still need samples, I want/need to know if its African based and just like any of the other TLK records sounds. I hope it has everything the rest of all the TLK music has, African tasting elements such as chants and meanings. And the only best TLK music artist to me is Lebo M, he to me is what made TLK magical, so the facts that he is not part of the production, really bothers me. Which reminds me of something (thinking of another thread)

According to chris willis, the composer, it does have what you are looking for. It's going to have music that fits the lion king.

Except for lebo m... But he hasn't been ruled out, yet at least.

No, but judging by his work on film scores and the new mickey mouse shorts he has a lot of range when it comes to musical composition. He also seems to be very enthusiastic about it.

At least musically tlg is in good hands.

Greg ellis who voices mzingo said that his character was delightful.

One of the writers for tlg is also very enthusiastic.

Khary phaton, new voice for rafiki, seems to be enthusiastic.

The animation seems to be good, and the logo is very classic disney in style.

Knowing all this I have gone from cautiously optimistic to optimistic about tlg.

I wouldn't find the lack of Lebo M. to be a huge deal-breaker concerning the musical score. He proved to be a good asset to the original film's work, but his involvement mainly consisted of him assisting Hans Zimmer with the choral arrangements of certain pieces and providing some of his own chanting for The Circle of Life. However, the bulk of the background score was mostly Zimmer's doing(as well some other contributors arranging a few filler cues, apparently).

Given that it's just a television show's score, I don't expect them to bring in and use a professional choir much, but I imagine Christopher Willis will at least attempt to simulate an African style of instrumentation in his compositions. The worst case scenario is if the score sounds more or less contemporary or something, but given Willis' track record of assisting professional film composers with additional music, one can imagine that he wouldn't go in such an amateurish direction.

I don't like how Disney has done things in the past 5 years, I mean I really miss the old versions of the Micky mouse cartoons, with goofy and Jiminny Cricket, I watched those alot when I was a kid and I still say they were done really well, now they just made the Micky mouse cartoon really sloppy I think, I just don't like the way they did it,......just no. :icky: so I just still worry on how what they think when it comes to the proper way its done. point is there are just some shows that weren't meant to be called Disney, for example, Fish Hooks, and Gravity falls :yuck: , I would see those more as Nickelodeon type shows. Again the way Disney Channel has transformed over the years has made me a little upset. I don't like alot of the comedy shows anymore, the only best one ive seen was the Suit Life of Zack and Cody, I really got a laugh out of that one but there On Deck version was not as good but I still watched it. So its just the shows they have these days just bother me, but that's just my opinion. Everything is not as proper as it used to be, I think. Though I admit I do watch Dog with a Blog, and Sofia the First. but that's it.

I didn't get into GF actually. But I do like a lot of modern Disney. I'm a Disney fan that likes almost all of Disney.

Yeah, we all are as far as I'm aware :P

My only hope is that we don't get too many (even better - none at all) episodes of all the Lion Guard crew saving/upstaging Simba and/or Nala from anything. Even as a kid, I reeeeally hated shows where the kid managed to do things that adults couldn't do (but would be able to do).
WE COULD BE TWINS! I'm so with you on that one. It seems like a lot of times I see movies/TV shows where the kid can do something their parents can't. Is that weird, or what?

How did I miss this? High-five, my friend

If I'm honest, I'm like Elton John - Right now, I'm optimistic about this. I'm easily pleased where cartoons are concerned, and, touch wood, so far nothing has shown up that I don't like the sound of. I don't have Disney Channel, and the only show from there that I've been semi-following has been Wander Over Yonder, so I can't really comment on other Disney shows right now.

Image is an Epic Mickey concept art. We could have had this in EM3. I still want it.
