The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)

Yeah, we all are as far as I'm aware :P

My only hope is that we don't get too many (even better - none at all) episodes of all the Lion Guard crew saving/upstaging Simba and/or Nala from anything. Even as a kid, I reeeeally hated shows where the kid managed to do things that adults couldn't do (but would be able to do).

WE COULD BE TWINS! I'm so with you on that one. It seems like a lot of times I see movies/TV shows where the kid can do something their parents can't. Is that weird, or what?

Kion is also supposed to have this power called Roar of the Elders. o_O Seriously, that is also weird for TLK, it's more of a realistic type of film (besides lions and hyenas speaking to each other, and Simba eating bugs xD But I can understand that was just for the benefit of the film).

Oh good we have canon magic. It's not really that out of place, considering the cloud Mufasa and Rafiki. I know the fandom gets split on that though. I'm on the camp of a fair bit of magic, but I can see why people wouldn't like it.

You know I've watched a tad of Sophia the First and if its like that I think it will be okay, although the movie and first episodes will probably be a bit bad just because of how most animated shows are? If they are good I will be surprised. If it is then it will focus a lot on the kids with periodic appearances by adults, who usually appear just to teach some sort of lesson.

I think with TLG it might work better since Simba and Nala are King and Queen and so it could easily be something like Kion bringing something to their attention that they were unaware of, since he'll probably be more involved with the problems that people don't take directly to Simba.
Even if she does get more screen time then the other original characters, it's probably going to be very little.
True, but even minimal appearances on a semi-regular basis will be good.

As for The Lion Guard making the preexisting characters look bad in any way, I don't think that would be good for The Franchise. If anything I could see The Lion Guard getting in over there heads and needing Simba and/or Nala, Kovu, Kiara, Vitani to rescue them. After all The Lion Guard are all cubs, so such a scenario is far more probable.

I think this is a very good as well as workable idea 8-)
Or it can probably be Simba, since Kion wants to tell him how good of king he will be in the future :P
Except for the fact that they have announced that Kion's older sister, Kiara, is next in line for the throne still. Kion won't be king, unless Kovu or Kiara is infertile or he pulls a Scar. I'm sure his parents will let him know he is not going to be king, so he probably wouldn't be trying to show them how good he'd be.

I think Kion will respect the fact his sister is going to be queen, and he might enjoy being Lion Guard a lot more than he would as king. Kiara didn't want to be queen when she was Kion's age.

It is kinda weird that a cub is going to be leading the Lion Avengers but considering Disney has always leaned towards the cubs when they're doing marketing its not super surprising, especially for a show on Disney Junior.

Also just so y'all know, I did some research on common sense media and ages tend to skew younger than you'd expect. For instance Steven Universe and Adventure Time are considered appropriate for 10 year olds, which feels a lot younger than you'd expect. Sofia the First, which is fairly okay, is good for 3 year olds, and MLP:FIM is meant for 5 year olds.

I think older people tend to forget that younger kids can deal with quite a bit more than you'd expect, so just because its made for young children doesn't mean its going to be terrible. The main issue is that the show will almost certainly be full of aesops and they'll be kind of heavy handed, but that's not a terrible thing (see FIM).

Considering that The Lion Guard them selves are cubs, it makes sense that a cub would lead them.

I know that I myself often under estimate what is acceptable for a "Kids Show" I have rather enjoyed the few episodes of Steven Universe that I have seen (Especially the ones that feature Lion)

Perhaps The Lion Guard being a Preschool show may not hamper the writing quite as much as I feared.
