The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)

When I first read it, I pronounce it as as "key-on". However, there is something that concerns me in terms of quality for the show:

As we all know, all the characters in the TLK have names that have a meaning or significance in Swahili. (Mufasa doesn't have a translation, but it was the name of a real life Swahili speaking king). I quickly looked up what "Kion" might be, and the results show up...

...a complete blank. As far as I can tell, Kion doesn't have any historical or cultural significance in African culture, nor does it translate into anything in either Swahili not Zulu.

This might seem like pure nitpicking, and most likely is, but I have a serious feeling of worry. After all, even Kopa means "heart", and he is not a canon character (as many of you pointed out). The author of a few story books put enough effort to make sure that Kopa's name means something (although it looks like there was an error in translation in Kopa's case: His name doesn't mean "heart" as much as "heart", one of the four suites in a deck of cards. Points for effort). However, Kion doesn't mean anything as far as I can tell, so if they did not bother to continuing that tradition, should we be worried? I hope not.

Kion however means "young warrior" in Irish but that wouldn't make any sense. He's not gonna be young forever neither he is Irish. Some fan sites already uses this as his name's "real" translation

So it's only for little brats in preschool? That kinda is like a punch in the face to older Lion King fans... If they are to expand the Lion King universe then the least thing they could've done is make it suitable for both young and old. -_-

FU Disney. First you invent this dreadful excuse for an animation called ''frozen'' and now this....

What makes you think they aren't doing that?

A lot of shows geared toward a younger audience also have "bonus features" for adults, too. You have to remember, there are still adults writing the show. If they take pride in what they do, it's not going to suck. The problems arise when we automatically assume that it's going to suck because it's for little squirts.

We all hate it when outsiders call our favorite movie a simple kid's movie, so let's not jump to conclusions. We're essentially doing the same thing.

Here are some examples of adult humor in family shows:

And it wouldn't be right without one from MLP:

The "it's for kids" argument is merely an excuse for the writers to be lazy and slack off on their work. All good kid's shows are made for kids and their families, which means we might still be able to expect a darker undertone just as in the cinematic releases we've come to know and love.

I heard about this all over Tumblr. I don't know how to feel about this, but I'll give it a chance. I hope it's good and may have an MLP vibe to it since I also love that show. I just hope that it won't ruin the movies for me, but heck. At least we're actually going to have a show that will focus on the lion characters instead of Timon and Pumbaa for once.

Why are everyone afraid of this? How can it change the actual movies?

Well yeah, but look what happened with The Last Airbender movie. That was a terrible adaptation of the original Avatar series and let the fans down since it actually looked promising for them.

I just don't want to be let down by this series since it's going to feature several of the main characters from the 1st and 2nd movie, but like I said, I'm going to give it a chance. I want to look at the movies from the same perspective and experience as I always have.

I really hope you are right this time, because the fact that they mentioned pre-schoolers (and then I think about children under 3 years old that barely even have a clue of what they're watching) isn't fitting me too well. Kinda makes me worried that there's gonna be lots of stupid nursery rhymes that are just unbearably annoying for the older TLK fans to hear.

Anyway I have to admit that you do have some points though, so for now I'll reserve my opinion on the show untill I have seen some of it.
