At first I was like, "OMC. It's baby Mufasa! It's like Jungle Cubs, except with TLK!"
But then I was like, "Oh, wait. IT'S KOPA!"
And then, "Wait... Oh. 'Kion'? lol. What's with that paw tattoo? Oh well. At least they're keeping Kiara in there! c: Maybe we'll get to see the other charries, too!"

Overall, I rate this new project 8 Kopa hair tufts out of 10. I was a little worried it would be all CGI, but it looks to me that they're trying to keep the traditional-looking style. I loved Paperman, and it looks like they're trying that style. c: I like the concept of a new character, especially another kiddo for Simba.
I can see all the fandom now.

On a lighter note, earlier today I was playing around with the idea of Fuli and Bunga being Rina and Rada's adopted sons. I'm loving these new non-lion characters (cheetahs and egrets FTW!).

And I agree with what others have said: if Mufasa is going to appear in this series at all, it's definitely going to be as a flashback. After all, Mufasa appeared in TLK:6NA on more than one occasion, but only in the stories being told to Kopa.

I was genuinely surprised to learn that Kion's name actually meant something in various languages, and even more surprised to hear that it's an Irish name...since Kiara's name is also Irish. Coincidence?

Also, here are the meanings of the names of Kion's animal pals (which all appear to be Swahili):
Bunga: silly person
Fuli: very fast
Ono: perception, feeling, appearance
Beshte: pal

EDIT: Is anyone else wondering how Kion's name is going to be pronounced? You'd think that it would be something like "kai-un" (like "lion", only starting with a k), but I keep hearing it as "Kee-awn" in my head.

I had thought the same thing myself, but I think it will be Kai-Un because Kee-awn would sound too similar to Kiara.
