The Lion Guard (2015 / 2016)

Having just read through this thread and caught up on what's happening, I just wanted to say that I think the artwork for The Lion Guard looks great to me. I wonder what kind of merchandise they're going to release, and will it be in time for Christmas (since they're premiering in November), or will the merch be likely to come out early 2016? I guess we have to wait and see with that one. Will be interesting to see if they bring the original TLK 'out of the vault' as someone pointed out. I'm sure they will... guess it might depend on the success of TLG. I'm just glad we have something to look forward to :) Have a great day everyone!

[quote="DGFone"]I hope not. If that will be the case, I am hoping that it will take the angle that the movie took: it doesn't take a human to destroy an ecosystem (invasive species much?)

Ok stop right there, I have to strongly dissagree. Me being in the Biology field right now, I just did a presentation on human over population growth and how it effects the biodiversity. I would love to show you my presentation but to make it short. First there is Habitate distruction, cutting down forests which lead to overexploitation. Then there are the fences and roads that cut migration routes like the elephants. then there is the noise pollution like cars and ships which interfere with communicaion between animals. There is the over fishing and over hunting like the poachers who just carelessly hunt for sport. And all of that starts with one greedy human so it does take a human to make a bad desision against one ecosystem, because that one person, will say I am taking over this land for my business, and BOOM there goes that ecosystem. So I say it woud be very important if they introduced that lesson in the show

I don't think adding humans in TLG is necessary, but since they already ruined it by making it a ''Dora the Explorer'' type of thing, does it really matter? I'm pretty sure most of us will stop watching it as soon as the first nursery rhyme occurs. The sad truth is that TLG is not going to be what all of us want it to be. When they mentioned that it will be for PRESCHOOLERS they did so for a good reason.

It hasn't been confirmed to be a "dora the explorer" type show. I kind of expect it to be like sofia the first where there are storylines, simple storylines but nothing too different from a lot of other disney toons based on their properties, with a slight education slant.

Shows like ducktales, darkwing duck, rescue rangers were aimed at a pre k crowd and most look back at them with fond memories. The only disney tv toon that was aimed at a slightly older audience was gargoyles.

He didn't say otherwise. Merely that he hopes they don't add humans to the show because they can demonstrate the issues we cause with the use of animals like they did in the first film... which I agree with. Humans have not appeared in any canon TLK works. Their appearance would ruin any chance the show had of being canon, and many fans would not watch it if they did that. It almost never works when they insert humans into animal universes they didn't originally appear in. Additionally, the plotline of an assortment of wild African animals led by a lion fighting off the destruction of their ecosystem by humans is highly overused, and it would be extremely underwhelming for Disney to make use of it here. If they want people to enjoy this show they are going to have to be more original than that.

Well, considering they have said that it will be like Sofia the First and Jake and the Neverland Pirates, what else should we expect it to be like?

I did not see that, sorry.

Also adding humans would would be a cop-out for not being able to write stories with just animal characters.

Sorry, I hate doing that, I'm usually above it but I agree with this post. If they would have been a bit more vague about it then sure but they literally came out the gate straight away and said "aimed at preschoolers".
Its why even though I will give the show a shot when it is out, I haven't really been keeping up with it or looking forward to it too much.

Then again MLP:FIM was "aimed at girls aged 1-11" but managed to take off across a wider demographic.
Basically, I'm not expecting to get much out of it but I'd happily be proved wrong.

I am actually finding the idea of TLG being as popular as MLP to be rather amusing. Because if there will be a sudden influx of fans because of the show, we will be able to go all "Yeah? But I was a fan long before the show. #hipster"

However, I don't see that as a bad thing if, even despite being a "for pre-schooler" show, that it will be good enough to even hold up with adults. Just because the target demographic is young doesn't mean that the show will need to be a diabetes-inducing sugerfest of happiness and fun. After all, The Lion King itself was not exactly aimed at adults, but we all see how it turned out to be. I think we can still retain a kernel of optimism for TLG, I think.

Yeah, The Lion King was a G rated movie... An age rating that meant it was appropriate for a pre k audience but not exclusive to that age range.

In most pr i have seen says that the lion guard is being made for kids 2-7 AND their famiies, meaning they are attempting to make something that can also be enjoyed by an older audience.... Just like the original lion king. How well they succeed at this is up in the air but most of ya'll forget who the primary audience of the lion king was.

I'm not too concerned about it being aimed at preschoolers. Then again, a couple of shows I watch have a 10 minute interval, so I usually end up watching some random kids shows anyway. There's a lot of bland shows aimed at that age group, but there's a couple that I have to admit aren't too bad, sometimes even enjoyable.
